My mouth swung open. I stared at him, my chest tightening like a balloon in an iron cage.

"Callie?"

He shook my shoulders, leaning onto them. My eyes drifted to the sand.

"Callie!?"

Taylor's voice grew distant. Tears sprung to my eyes. I whispered, barely hanging on,

"They....they killed the whole of LA!?"

There was a pause from his end. That pause told me everything I needed to know.

"No!"

I screamed, blinking back tears. Taylor held my arms as I sunk the sand, sobbing in silence.

"No...it can't be....my friends....my mom..."

I coughed, my throat itching dry.

Taylor's hand went on my wet cheeks. I faced him with my blurry eyes. Sparks of light from the beach had started to descend.

"Callie...you need to listen to me.."

"Taylor I ---"

"Shush. Just listen to me. We have no confirmation regarding your mom. You need to steady yourself. There is hope."

I wiped my tears.

"Taylor...is my agency and the team...are they really....?"

He confirmed my doubts with a heavy pause.

And just like that, everything was gone. Everything I ever had.

Marie was like my second family. Rick and Daisy weren't only my employees. They were my friends. Detective Eagle Eye was my pride.

The only thing that kept me sane after my dad's death. The only thing.

Sun settled down, leaving me grappled to the gritty sand scratching my skin. The scenic lights vanished into thin air.

I stood up in a jolt, kicking the sand away. Taylor rubbed the back of my shoulders.

"Callie, you need to stay strong if we want to get out of this. There is a bigger monster at play, and I am afraid it's much bigger than Donnor."

I faced him, my heart beating uncontrollably.

"Do you think the brothers are the ones behind me getting thrown in Donnor's empire?"

He nodded.

"Maybe. Maybe it was the brothers, who controlled everything."

I had so many questions. I thought Donnor controlled everyone...not the other way around.

I blurted,

"But what is it that they want so bad!?"

He gave me a quick look, pressing the wounded spot covered with bandages.

"They are behind the LA police. And they are willing to do anything to get it."

I pressed my lips. He was right. The brothers want Donnor's report. But wait...does that mean that they---
