Chapter 26: Academic Obstacles

Though his grades started improving by the end of July, Sehki's attention would focus on Ainsley. Their gaze looked much stronger, using their earth to push people away and moving around the earth to just walk.

Every time he saw Candy, Sven, and Bodin looked like they came from a petrified location. Towards the start of August, even Calypsa started noticing something was up. Sehki watched her go up to them for a chat, and they made a hand out of the ground and slapped her into the tree.

"What is wrong with you," Sehki asked, trying to punch him, but Ainsley twisted their arm, causing the rare site of Terra Security to come and break them up.

Before Calypsa brought him to the CCC, he yelled, "I thought Bethany was right about you, but you're no better than the rest of them."

Ainsley moved their face for a second before their Inner Circle had to take them away.

At the center, the other nurses were tending to Sehki's wound. Calypsa was about to head when she swung her staff, blocking several of Ms. Gorgon's snakes.

"What brings you here, child? Do the Hinata's have an issue keeping their pups on a leech?"

"Funny coming from another expendable staff member that could easily be replaced. Should I tell Ainsley's parents about your methods or leak to the media that one of our savior has been acting up with your increased presence?"

Both ladies's glare overpowered the might of their respective weapons.

"If it ensures their child doesn't become a laughingstock to the world, so be it. Now tell me why are you choosing to act around the disgraced prince?"

Her smile held her gulp. "Because it's much more fun to bully him instead. Maybe instead of focusing on someone chosen to be a member of the Inner Circle, you actually do your job and help Ainsley."

"That thing doesn't need care. The king and queen want the next generation of power, not a weak baby that doesn't understand pain," walking away. "If you're helping Prince Sehki, you'll know the true extent of their wrath."

The staff stopped an inch from Gorgon's throat.

"Everything I do is for all their heirs and this world. Oh I'll make Sehki wish he left, but no one decides how I operate. Now crawl back before you'll need medical attention."

Gorgon sucked her teeth and left while Calypsa headed inside, finding him asleep.

"I may have to hurt you sooner than I thought."

He was discharged late in the night several days later, returning to House Erebus after finding Calypsa's door locked. On the couch was a letter.

Adjusting still isn't working out, huh? You've been keeping away from the heirs, but why not try to bond with them instead. You did so well with the last Void Attack.

"Oh yeah," recalling how they worked together. The gas in his stomach roared as his IBS made his stomach roar at the close calls. Still, he looked at the articles Calypsa recommended. Some people believed in him, and in their heirs.

Complacency is only going to get me so far.

In the middle of the month, Sehki went to Professor Lyncis, asking to check the growth of his powers.

"Your fire and earth spells are about to reach its limits, but you need more work on your earth and air. It's still not as high as what you should be, but your StellArts should start developing within the next couple of months."

She gave him the information to contact the other Elemental Studies professors for Water and Air, but winced to find out Tychonis was the professor, approaching his office with caution.

"Oh Kayla, here to continue our sess..oh," expressing disappointment, "you."

Gross. "Um look, I was just wondering if you could give me some tips or guidebooks on practicing water magic?"

He checked his phone. "Well I could use some energy," as his hair strands expanded and flew to Sehki sucking on his body. "Let me see what's troubling you: Ethereal StellArt: Berenices!"

He tried to pull them off, but the black strands blasted a strange mist he tried blowing off.

"Let me see what's troubling you, release that built up tension," he said seductively.

The mist transformed into a person that made his eyes water.

Val? His mind cracked at the sight of his best friend and the supposed love his life.

Trying to reach out for her, his magic power built up to reach her, blowing off the professor's restraints to reach her, only for her to vanish in front of his eyes.

"No, no! Come back!"

His eyes could only see Tychonis picking himself up from a hole in the cabinet of his trophies and medal, summoning an oceanic force as his hair strains formed spikes around his body, merging with the water within the air.

"How dare you stain my perfect face and awards!" His professor's prehensile hair was about to skewer him when the yell of the Shield StellArts built several in front of him while the person responsible pulled him out of there. They ran until they stopped towards another section of the office building.

Calypsa's hands pinned him to the wall.

Are you insane? Didn't I warn you not to go to him?"

"I forgot he was the professor for water as well, plus I can't keep relying on only you forever," telling him about Lyncis' advice.

She pulled him up by his shirt. "Oh, you'll see why this August! Go ahead, not everyone is as kind as Tidal! How much did he see?"

Sweat and panic restarted at the sight of his shirt. "The girl I told you about, my friend back at my own home. I swear."

She let go, adjusting her outfit, calling out Sculptor and Coma, extending her hair and weaving her hands to make a more scantily clad gym outfit, watching its effect on him.

"I'm going to clean up your mess before he uses it against you or me. But let me make one thing clear," lowering to his ears.

"I won't let anyone break you. So, stop enduring. Attack."

He was mouthing I know, when she stared directly in his face.

"After all, the only one that gets to bully you is me."

Dread riddled down his spine as she walked away, telling him to meet him after class.
