{Soooooooo, the plan was to write a V short story, but I'm enjoying writing Jack and Tessa so we're doing this instead. The main story will continue soon, I promise.}
{I like writing these two WAAAAYY too much. I'm never going to get anything else done if these two keep being cute.}
{This is in the paaaast. Sort of a continuation from the other one.}
I awoke, The Unmatched Power of the Sun beaming through the curtains. Jack stared out the window at the swamp. He heard me move and turned around.
Jack: Mornin' Tess. Sleep well?
Tessa: Mmhmm. Whatcha lookin' at?
Jack: Just the swamp. Could be a better view, eh?
Tessa: Oh, certainly. The swamp is a nice aesthetic sometimes, but I'd prefer to wake up to a nice garden or something.
The world outside the window shifted, morphing from the swamp, into a garden filled with flowers. It wasn't real, but damn if it wasn't pretty. I could smell the nonexistent flowers through the window.
Tessa: You're too nice to me.
Jack: Maybe. I'm not going to stop though.
Tessa: Just don't strain yourself if that's hard to keep up.
Jack: Meh, hardest part of this is making it. Sustaining it isn't too bad.
Tessa: You better not be lying.
Jack: I'm not, I promise.
I crawled out of bed, halfheartedly trying to fix the bird nest that was my hair. I walked over and dangled myself off of Jack's shoulders.
Tessa: It looks incredible. I don't know how you manage to create such a good image.
Jack: It's magic.
Tessa: Seems like it to me.
There was a knock on the door. Probably J.
Tessa: Come in.
Sure enough, J opened the door.
J: Good morning boss. Hey Jack, thought you'd have gone home.
Jack: She kept me here.
J glared at me.
J: What if your mother had seen him? Do you know what she'd do?
Jack: She wouldn't have done anything.
Jack growled out the words, a glyph appearing over one of his eyes.
J: Her fear of you only goes so far.
Jack: J, what do you see out this window.
She walked over, eyes widening in surprise.
Jack: If I can change the view out of a window to be so realistically something that it's not, can you imagine what I could do to someone's mind? The things I could make them see? Louisa Elliot should fear me more than death.
I smiled and leaned into him. He never went in depth on the things he wanted to do to my parents, but I know how far he'd go to protect me. My mother is lucky to be alive. The image of the garden shimmered and distorted, changing back to the swamp. The smell of flowers lingered for a moment, before dissipating as well.
J: Yeah. I, um, would you two like anything?
Jack: I'll teleport back home. I have some things to check on.
Tessa: You'll be back, right?
Jack: Of course, Tess. I'd never leave you.
He gently moved my arms off his shoulders, bowed, and disappeared in a flash of white code.
