I was sitting in the Mainframe room with Tessa and Reap3r. We were discussing our next move, and he was running risk calculations. It had proved very insightful so far. Mostly it had revealed that me and Tessa's plans, were the worst shit we could possibly do. It was a bit hurtful. Then Sanitatum shook.
Jack: Reap3r? What was that?
Reap3r: Seems to be space debris. I would recommend checking it out though. It seems, strange.
Me and Tessa exchanged a worried look, grabbing our equipment. I told Reap3r to notify the Drones, and we went outside. The debris was strange. It was a landing pod. Tessa tried the door controls, but a yellow glyph flashed angrily.
Tessa: That's not good.
Jack: Not in the slightest. Go get the drones. I'll get this open.
She nodded and disappeared in a flash of blue light. She had gotten much better at teleporting recently, which would be very useful. I walked up to the door and help up my hand, dispelling the lock. The moment the lock was gone, the door burst open, and a Solver Drone leapt out, wings outstretched and tail flailing. It knocked me to the ground and pinned me. I punched it in the visor and teleported away, grabbing the drone and telekinetically holding it in the air.
I crushed its core, and its movement ceased, I heard it say something with its last moments of life.
"Thank you"
I felt my blood run cold, and I dropped the drone.
"Jack?"
I whipped around, pulling up glyphs in my hands. Tessa had reappeared behind me, drones in tow.
Tessa: What happened?
I lifted the now dead drone. The bot's eyes hollowed in shock. I could feel Tessa's surprise through her helmet.
Uzi: Is that...?
Jack: A Solver Drone. Seems like we've been sent a message.
I snapped my fingers, lighting the inside of the drop pod. On the inside, written on the wall with oil, there were two words.
COME HOME
Tessa gasped and took a step back. Seems like she figured out what that meant just as quickly as I did.
Tessa: Oh no. No no no.
Uzi: What?! What is it?
N: Come home? What does that mean-?
He froze. The Disassembly Drones had realized what was meant by the words.
Uzi: Is it talking about the mansion? I thought earth was destroyed.
Jack: Destroyed, yes. It was. There were still large pieces floating around in space though. Seems Tessa's home survived. Unfortunately. The Absolute Bastard up there has probably given us this nice pod so that we can get there.
V: That pod only has two seats, you can seriously be thinking of doing that.
Jack: No. I have an alternative. I used to teleport to Tessa's room all the time. I'll just do it again.
Tessa: It wouldn't be in the same place though. Wouldn't you just end up floating in space?
Jack: As long as it exists, it shouldn't matter too much. I can have Reap3r run some numbers and we can get a pretty accurate assumption of where it is. I'll at least check this out. No one has to come with me.
V: Are you kidding me? Of course we're going!
N: We're a team now Jack.
Uzi: Can't leave us behind that easily.
J: I can provide support if you need it.
Tessa, was silent.
Tessa: I... I want to help you...
Jack: You don't have too. I know it'll be painful to go back there, but you will have us.
Tessa took a breath and steadied herself.
Tessa: No. I'm going. I can't let you do this without me.
I could feel her determination. I nodded, and spoke to Reap3r.
Oi
Yeah yeah, I've already done it. You should be getting the information now.
Thank you.
I know knew where to go.
Jack: Right, I'll teleport and ensure a clear spot, then I'll come back and get you guys.
Everyone confirmed the plan, and I shut my eyes. Focusing all the energy I had on dragging myself through the fabric of space, and to where I wanted to be. Energy gathered around me, and I was gone. I opened my eyes, and my breath caught in my throat. I was in Tessa's bedroom. It looked untouched. I looked out the window, into the void of space. I regathered my focus and teleported back to Copper-9.
Jack: Right, should be good.
Tessa: You sure you can teleport all of us that far?
Jack: Yep. It's just the first time that's the worst. If I've already been somewhere, it doesn't take much energy, and I've gotten better at teleporting multiple people.
Everyone gathered up around me, and I dragged us to the mansion.
Jack: Here we are. Everyone good?
Tessa: Yeah, everyone's fine. It looks...
Jack: Pristine? Yeah, it's weird.
J walked over to the rocking horse, placing a hand on the chain next to it, quickly pulling her hand back as if she'd been burned.
Jack: I wouldn't recommend touching anything. We should move.
Tessa: Yeah, I don't want to be in here for any longer than I have to. J? You good?
J: Uh, yeah. I'm fine. Sorry.
I went over to the door, and opened it. I expected to see classic Solver architecture. Flesh surfaces and the like. Instead, everything was normal. I didn't like it. I grabbed my greatsword and slowly left the room. Walking through the house, I kept an eye on where I was at all times, and where my autopilot was taking me.
"Please just let me go."
The fuck? Tessa's head shot up too. The drones didn't seem to hear it.
"What did I do to deserve this?"
Who the hell is that?! Me and Tessa were looking everywhere, the drones were giving us weird looks.
V: Are you guys okay-?
Jack: Shut up. You don't hear that?
N: Hear what?
Tessa: The begging?
J: Are you sure that you guys are okay?
Uzi: Yeah, there's nothing.
Jack: Well, that's not good.
Tessa: No shit Jack!
She pointed her sword around anxiously.
I felt dragged in the direction of the dining hall. There again? I led the way, Tessa following very close behind.
"I just want to die!"
"Please! Just let me go!"
The voice sobbed in my ears, getting louder as we approached the dining hall. Tessa could hear it too, judging by her slightly panicked breathing. I kicked open the door, and the voices ceased.
The dining hall was full of human bodies from the gala. Somehow, all in almost perfect condition. Something felt off. Sure, the state of them was a bit strange, but perhaps the black hole at earth's core and the vacuum of space had strange effects on decomposition.
My blood froze in my veins. I realized what was wrong.
The bodies were crying
