"You did it!"
"I thought you'd gone to sleep."
"I couldn't while I knew you were out there fighting. It's always so cool to see you fight!"
"You're speaking a bit more normally. Can I assume that you've been liberated from it?"
"I have! Thank you so much Jack! I just wish I had some way to repay you."
"Well, you've got all the time in the world to think of something. Happy to help you, Cyn."
"Rest now, reaper. For you have vanquished a most powerful foe."
"You're a dork Cyn."
"Yep."
I sobbed as Jack died in my arms. I didn't care about the lightning burning me, or being covered in blood. I finally got to tell him that I love him, and he said that he loved me too, and then he was taken from me. J, V, N, and even Uzi tried to comfort me, but I was inconsolable. I have no idea how long I cried for, but it was long enough for me to almost pass out. My vision was blurry, and my ears were ringing.
Something grabbed me and Jack and moved us over to the vault door. It picked up his hand and placed it on the scanner, the surface turning green in response to his touch. The many locks around the door released, and it slowly swung open. I couldn't marvel in the greatness of the room, or the power of the computer it housed. I heard footsteps splashing as I was carried inside, Jack still in my arms. He still sparked from the energy he took from the monster he killed. I felt my arms grow weak, and my vision fade to black.
I can't believe this. I always thought of Jack as immortal. One of the smartest people in the world, who couldn't be killed. I was wrong. Tessa cried over his body. We eventually used his hand to get the vault door open, and got to safety, shutting the massive door behind us. Me and Uzi went over to one of the corners of the room, allowing V and J to deal with Tessa. We wouldn't be able to help.
Uzi: I can't fucking believe it. He has the nerve to die, come back and kill the thing that killed him like a badass, and then die again?!
N: That does suit his style, yes.
Uzi: I'm sorry, you can't be taking this well. I don't mean to be insensitive I just-
N: It's fine Uzi. I understand.
Uzi: No. It's not fine. Please don't pretend that it is, N. I know that it hurts, and I know you're trying to be strong, but you don't have to be.
I broke. I dropped to my knees and cried. Jack had been there from the day Tessa had dug me out of the swamp. He helped me figure out who I was. He was a father to me. And now he's dead. And I have no idea where to go from here. Doing anything seemed pointless. Look for the remaining Solver Drones? Who cares anymore. Our best chance of dealing with them is dead. Keep searching the facilities? We can't access the mainframe without him. Even if we could get through the door, none of us knows how to code as well as he did. What do we do now?
