I woke up in a cold sweat next to Tessa. I had this weird dream about playing Uno. I pushed the wretched dream aside and sat up. The strain I'd caused myself meant I had a migraine for now. Great. I laid back down and shut my eyes.
Hey.
Hi Jack.
How are things coming along?
Nicely. The lower level is finished, and I've been working on the upper levels. You'd love it.
Maybe. I have a damn migraine. Too much strain yesterday.
Dying twice will do that to you. I might be able to relieve the pain a bit.
You can do that?
Of course I can.
You never mentioned that before.
You never asked. I've been doing it the whole time anyway. Would've hurt a lot more to sprout wings without it.
Well, thanks.
You're welcome. Your head should hurt less now.
It does. Cool.
I opened my eyes again, this time not experiencing excruciating pain. I looked over at Tessa, who was still sleeping peacefully. I rolled out of bed, not bothering to grab my equipment. I fed and nourished myself, and headed to the mainframe.
Jack: Hey dude. Place looks great.
Reap3r: Glad to think so! You sure you should go back to working?
Jack: As long as you keep the headache suppressed, it should be okay.
Reap3r: Okay, just try not to use any abilities. Even if it's just some telekinesis, it might strain your mind too much. And definitely no teleporting.
Jack: I'd figured that one out.
When I got up, I tried to teleport. I regrated that idea when I dropped to my knees in pain and my head felt like it was splitting open. Would've appreciated a bit of warning before that. I sat down at the computer and went to switch the screen on.
Tessa: Bit rude to leave early.
Jack: Good morning. I had no idea how long you'd be sleeping for, so I let you sleep.
Tessa: I suppose I appreciate that. You really just gonna go straight back to working?
Jack: I've still got things to do.
Tessa: With a migraine?
I glared at the camera beside me. It looked at the floor.
Jack: Reap3r is keeping it suppressed. It won't hurt much as long as I don't use my abilities.
Tessa: Mmhmm. You really like hurting yourself, don't you? You seem to have made a habit of it.
Jack: The things I do just coincidentally cause me agony sometimes. I don't see the problem.
Tessa: That kind of is the problem. Look, you're doing a lot by yourself, and you can't do it all.
Jack: And there's no one who can help me as much as I, "need".
Reap3r: I have a proposal.
Jack: What is it?
Reap3r: You could grant Tessa our power.
Tessa: That's actually a really good idea. Why haven't you done that yet.
Jack: Because of all the things that can go wrong. It hurts like hell when you start off, and if somehow your body rejects it, you'll die.
