{Tessa POV}
Reap3r guided me to Jack. He was talking with N and Uzi about upgrading some of Sanitatem's systems. Uzi was giving all of the crazy ideas like automated turrets, laser grids, and other assorted traps and trickery. N was keeping her in her chair and keeping an eye on Cyn as Jack calmly explained to Uzi why we did not have those things already. Whether it was forgetfulness, or the volatile nature of ai.
I felt a little bad interrupting, but I needed to talk to Jack. I knew something was up, and Reap3r had confirmed my growing suspicions, and I had to do something.
Tessa: Having fun?
N: Oh, lots.
Cyn reached for his stinger. N turned around and flicked her forehead. I somehow forget that she's really just kind of a child. She pouted at him and sat down next to Jack.
Jack: What's up Tess?
Tessa: I was wondering if I could borrow you for a while?
Jack looked at N, then at Cyn, then back at N. They exchanged a nod, and Jack got up.
Jack: Sure.
I led the way to our room. He walked in and sighed.
Jack: Right. Figures.
Tessa: Hmm?
Jack: So, what are we here for?
Tessa: You sound like you know.
Jack: ...I do.
Tessa: Please don't be mad, I just-
Jack: Calm down Tess. Takes a lot more than this to upset me. Just, figures this would happen right after I recorded that.
Tessa: Reap3r showed it to me.
Jack: Somehow, I knew he would.
Tessa: Look, we're both just worried about you.
Jack: I know that. I know that no matter how much I tell you not to, you'll worry. Even though you shouldn't.
Tessa: What do you mean?
Jack: ...Ah, nothing. So, we're here to talk about the past?
Tessa: Yes.
Jack: Let me guess, because of my deteriorating mental state caused by me trying to ignore things.
Tessa: ...Yeah...
Jack: You shouldn't have tried this.
Jack made his way to the door. A blue symbol appeared around his wrist before he could touch the doorknob. He struggled physically, but he wasn't really trying to get free. At any moment he could simply dispel my abilities. He's far more powerful than me.
Tessa: Listen, cunt. I care about you, and I'm not giving you an option here. We're going to talk, so that you don't lose your mind.
Jack: You think you have some authority over me?
I looked into his eyes. They were covered by floating glyphs, but the symbols were transparent. I saw his eyes. He was desperate, and he was scared.
Tessa: Yes. I do.
One of my eyes sparked with blue energy as I stared at him. His shot out white lightning, but it was all aimed downward. It looked like he was crying electricity. If I couldn't see the fear behind the barrier he put up, I would be terrified.
I remember what it was like to stare into those rage filled eyes any time my mother would chain me. The hatred he held for one person was enough to make my heart stop, but not now. Now, I could see past the outside wall, and what he really felt. I placed one of my hands on his face. The glyphs in front of his eyes flickered, and the electric tears quickened in pace.
Jack: I don't want to Tessa. I can't...
Tessa: You can Jack. I'll be here to help you, okay? I'll be with you the whole time.
The glyphs covering his eyes fizzled out. The lightning turned to water. His legs shook. I released his wrist, and caught him as he fell.
Tessa: It's okay Jack.
Jack: Ah, fuck you.
Tessa: Maybe after sweetheart.
Jack: I hate you sometimes you know that?
Tessa: Mmhmm, keep talkin'.
He got up and raised a hand to his face, speaking into a summoned solver glyph.
Jack: You and I are going to have a looooong talk after this, Reap3r.
He lowered his hand and looked at me again, sitting down on our bed.
Jack: Okay. Fine. Where do you want to start.
Tessa: The true beginning, when everything went to hell.
