Yashmin's POV
The moment the knife slip into my mother's flesh I felt nothing but overwhelming fear. I thought she had lost a finger luckily it was just a wound.I made my way to get her the band-aid as she asked. I felt myself got dizzy but I remained steadfast in my pursued of the band-aid.
I returned to the sink, my mom removed the paper towel, she previously held over her wound and asked me to cover it with the band-aid.
The moment I saw the blood I froze, unable to move. Thirst hit me like a tornado; unexpected but voilent. I had never desired anything the way I desired my mother's blood in this very moment. I felt my teeth grew down and inflicted trauma to my lips.
I saw fear in my mom eyes and I just knew this was the moment grandma McCleary spoked about. The moment where my mom would have to kill me. I stood there waiting on her to take my life and when she didn't, I felt utterly disappointed
I was disgusted by everything I was. But what I was, I knew not. I felt myself breaking as the desire got stronger. But as always I knew my dad would rescue me from myself.

He brought me into our living room and then he spoked.
"It's ok Yash, just relax and drink this", he said bringing a vile to my lips.
The moment it touch my tongue, I felt relieved, I felt at peace and all the thirst I felt vanished, at once.
I looked up to face him as tears streamed down my cheeks. "Dad, am a monster, aren't I?"
"No you are just your father's child. A product of what I am, a product of what your grandma is. In my family this is an absolute privilege."
The moment I heard my dad said a product of who he is, I knew I could never be a monster. I knew I could never be something awful. Because there was no kinder soul than my dad.
I saw him place his hands on beneath his chin in deep thoughts. "Are you ok", I asked him.
"I just don't know how your mom will feel about this. I been hiding a part of me from her, ever since we got together. Before she doesn't want to be with me anymore?", said my dad as he sighed.
"Dad you will soon find that mom is more accepting than you think."
"Trust me Yash, it's easier for you to accept because it's who you are. But your mom will struggle. Humans think only fear when they hear of us, much less to see. Did you see how she looked upon you with fear in her eyes."
"Human", I repeated laugh. Poor dad, he doesn't know that he isn't the only one hiding a secret. He doesn't know that mom isn't human. Both of my parents didn't really know each other and was married for years.
My Dad looked upon me with furrowed borrows as he wrestled with confusion. "My poor child", he said as he embraced me into an hug. For the first time ever, I felt accepted fully by someone who knew very well who I was.

"Dinner is ready", I heard my grandma said. I looked up shyly meeting her gaze. When our eyes met , she winked at me.
"Grandma how is mom?", I asked.
"I can't tell ", she responded.
"What do you mean?"
"Why don't you come see for yourself", she said as she left.
Dad and I followed behind her. When we got there, I noticed Leona, mom and grandma was seated around the table. Smiles were being exchanged in the presence of Leona. I expected nothing less of my mom. She was the queen of deception.
We joined in and we all had dinner as if we were a normal family.
"Your lips are bleeding", said Leona.
Everybody else looked up on me the instant Leona spoke. I felt the air thickened with awkwardness.
"I bit into it by accident", I said.
Leona laughed at me as she always did. The atmosphere slowly returned to normal as we continued our meal. My mom, grandma and dad all exchanged challenging looks but nobody spoke directly to each other.
I felt a bit unsettled as the food left my plate and the table. As I knew this moment was soon to be over.
Leona got up and excused herself. She took her plate to the kitchen and made her way to the stair case. She then stopped stretched out her hand for me to take.
I looked at Dad to see if it was ok and he smiled. I stood up and attempted to walk towards Leona but then my mother spoke.
"Yash I think you should stay here a little bit."
My shoulders dropped in disappointment.
"It's ok", said my dad. "Let her go."
"But I don't think......", continued my mother.
"Yashshauna trust me it's ok, she can go?", said my dad. "Go Yash go be with your friend, for in the morning I'll be taking her home."
I have been waiting all my life for my dad to stand up to my mom and the one day he choose to do it, I didn't like it one bit.
"Why?", I asked.
"Because tomorrow we will be going on a family trip ", he said.
I frowned as I took Leona's hand. Leona laughed before she spoke, "quit frowning", she said. "Go on your family trip and just be back so we can go shopping."
I looked at her and smiled as we made our way up the stair case. I was happy to be going with her but also unsure if I should. I was leaving my anger fueled mom, downstairs with creatures, I knew not. This seemed very much like a safety hazard.
