Yashshauna's POV
I bend down beside her as my husband and his mom, made their way towards us.

"It's time", said Muron's mother.

"But it's literally almost midnight, can't it wait till morning", responded Muron

"Look at your child, do you think she can last till in the morning", asked his mother.

They were talking to each other as if I were present.

"Time for what", I interrupted.

Muron looked down at me, with a worried look on his face, that made me even more worried.

"Her first kill", responded his mother.

"HER FIRST WHAT!, WHY."

"It will ease her pain allow all her vampire abilities to set in at once", responded Muron.

"But what do we do now. She is in pain", I asked them?"

"Oh she will soon be ok just give her five minutes", said Muron's mother.

I watched my baby girl, my shadowling screamed in agony for five minutes and then she just stopped. The pain stopped and I embraced her in a hug.

"We will wait until it's morning", said Muron.

"We can't wait till morning", said his mother. "She may die."

"She can't possibly see right now, how will she hunt, remember she doesn't have her vampire vision as yet."

Wait why was dead bring mentioned with my daughters name.

"Can somebody please explain to me what is happening?", I asked.

"She is changing into a vampire", responded Muron's mother.

"It's this hard to be what you are", I asked.

"Yes it usually is for humans we change. But never for those born into it", said Muron's mother again.

"Then why is it so hard for Yashmin, she was born this way?"

"Because my idiot son did not allow her to inherit her qualities from birth. So now it's the breaking point.  For offspring born as vampires, their first feeding is done days after they are born. Their mothers normally allow them to drink of her first and then,  she feeds him/ her with whatever unlucky human she preys on. This way the vampire qualities comes on slowly; you know enhanced hearing,  taste and even smell. Our sharp visions that allow us to see in night as we do in days. Amongst others but for Yashmin, this was not done. She lived her first 15 years of her life denying that side of her. And at 15 she can denie it no longer. Vampirism come whether its wanted or not. It's call Vampurety. What humans would simply called puberty. If she doesn't feed tonight she will die."

"She might not die. She could survive", responded Muron.

"She will not", said Muron's mother.

"Quit arguing back and forth with each other and someone please tell me her changes of survival until if she doesn't feed tonight."

"40%", said her dad.

"Well then I guess we are doing this tonight."

"Babe it's not that I don't want her to, she is useless in the night. This is a right of passage in which neither of us can intervene she must identify her prey, hunt it down and kill it without either of our help. Without vampire vision at night she is as useless as a human."

"Muron you seem to be forgetting that Yashmin is a shadowling, half ghost. Her vision is best at night. Vampires aren't the only creatures of the night you know.

"But we are best at it", mumbled his mother.

"Ok then I guess we are doing this now", said Muron

I was scared for my child, through all the conversation she just sat listening. Not speaking a single word. The thought of her killing another person and drinking their blood made me nauseous . But my child was gonna live, and if killing another human is how she does it so be it.

Yashmin's POV
Wait did they just say I had to perform my first kill. And I had to hunt it first. Who knew being a vampire was much work.

On the bright side, I knew exactly who I wanted to kill. It would either be my maths teacher, Mr Brown or that witch Miss James who constantly picked on me to answer questions in class. One of them was going down tonight and while I wasn't happy about doing the work, about hunting  and gathering like the indigenous people in history.

I was looking forward to tasting the teachers I hated. I wonder if Mr Brown blood would be mixed with indices and simultaneously equations..........wait do blood have flavours. I though as a smile crept up on my cheek.
They say they would decide my future. But here I am planning to cancel theirs.

"Ok I am ready. Who else is", I said enthusiastically.

"Ready for what?", asked my dad.

"My first kill dad, I know who exactly it should be", I said smiling.

"What Yash, you are happy about doing this?", asked my mother.

"No mom, I am really upset that I'll have to hunt them down but I figure it won't be so hard cause I have their addresses written down somewhere."

My mother's mouth hang opened. I don't know why she is acting surprised, she just agreed about me killing to survive but now that am ok with it, her mouth opens.

"Their address?", asked my dad.

"Yes I have two candidates for my first kill."

"No Yashmin."

"What?", asked my grandmother and I in union.

"You will be hunting and killing an animal tonight not people."

"Why", I said frowning.

"Muron just think for a second. Let the girl kill her first human, it's what she wants", said my grandmother.

"I will not allow it, I feel the need to protect Yashmin's humanity and I think her mother would be more comfortable this way."

Dad was such a hypocrite, I remember all those men whose necks he bit into when we went to assist grandad and the others. Of course he will say it did it to protect us but I know he enjoyed every minute of it. But am not allowed to do it cause my humanity must be protected.

It's not like I want to kill everyone, just one of two persons and for good reasons too. Just so I survive this period of change.
