Yashmin's: heat stroke

I was so excited by the fact that my grandma was coming. Maybe this one would accept me. Am sure this one wouldn't turn me away. Humans don't care about whether I can transform or not.

From time to time I wondered if my mom ever told my dad what we were. I didn't but I always assumed he knew who and what he married. And what his child would become.

"Yashmin are you ok", asked my mother.

"Mostly mom."

"Can I go see Loena?"

"You can see her tomorrow I think you should just stay home and rest."

"Mom since you came from a McMelon and a McCleary, that would make you pure bred."

"Yes Yashmin but that doesn't matter anymore. The council decided it was ok to have  relationships with humans years ago. I don't know why this is a issue with your grandma but am sure your granddad will figure it out. It's nth to worry about."

"Mom you did hear her say you will have to kill me right."

"And do you think I'll ever hurt you."

"Never but what are the consequences if you ignore your ancestors' request."

"Let me worry about that, why don't you prepare for the visit of your dad's mom."

"Speaking of, have dad,.........mom do he know what we are?

"No.."

"What do you mean by no, you both have been together so long. How is it that you have managed to hide such a big important secret."

"I am not ready yet, when I am ready I'll tell him."

"When will you be ready, when I turn into a puff of smoke one night at dinner", I asked as I walk away.

This was crazy. I don't understand why we must hide who we are from the people we love. In an instant of walking away, I had to walk back to the kitchen where I was. Since I get back I have been feeling this exceptional thirst.

Hopefully I am not expected to maintain this lie. Dad made it too easy for mom, he is always out working and she is always here with me. She keeps track of him well and ensures he never sees her for who she is.

How is that love? When I married; human or fellow ghost. He will know what I am from the get go, I thought as I chug a glass of water down my throat.

"Are you ok?", asked my mom.

"Yes I am", just a little thirsty.

"A little you say", she said as she laugh at the empty glass in my hand and the confusion on my face

"Mom can I asked you a question?"

"Sure", she stated.

"What council is granddad responsible for. I have heard you say he is the head of the council and Sarafena addressed him as if he was royalty."

My mom sat me down and told me of what she called our orgins story. Something about five friends and one scarfricing herself to send her friends back to live.

She mentioned that when all the girl's parents turned their back on them, that the McClearys did not.

She also mentioned that since then, the four families have always been lead by A McCleary.

She told me that whenever they had issues such as the present one with my grandma requesting my death, the four families would get together and discuss them.

She told me, my grandfather was responsible for all four families. That he possessed great abilities that surpass us all and that he was the strongest.

She mentioned that granddad's position was hereditary, that he recieved it from his mom and that she would recieve it from him and visa, versa for me.

"But how can the girl denied by her maternal line ever lead. Who would respect her?", I asked.

"You are a McCleary and like all McClearys you are strong, you will do great things."

My mother's words and tone was reassuring but I didn't believe all the lies spilling out from her lips. Her people would never respect me or see me as one of them. In fact I am the first impure McCleary in a while. I love my dad and my mom's rebel qualities but I think it would be easier if she had just married a ghost to begin with.

I don't know what was happening to me but I am extra thirsty today. It's like the more I drink. The more thirsty I become.

"Mom can I please have some juice"

"Sure but as soon as you are finished, please take the garbage into the front yard for disposal"

I drank the juice and did just what my mother asked. My thirst was still very much present and stepping out in the hot sun didn't make it any better. However outside did welcome a pleasant surprise.

"Leona, what are you doing here?", I asked as I hugged her.

"Since you didn't show on your birthday to go shopping,  I decided I would come by and check on you. From the looks of it, I made the right decision. Why are you sweating so much."

"Leona don't you feel how hot the sun is?"

"Actually it's not very hot, maybe we should go inside I don't think you are well."

Leona was right I wasn't feeling like myself. I got inside, my mom was surprised to see Leona but she greeted her as well. Leona had came prepared with  her bag pack and I wasn't going to turn away my friend.

"Why don't you go to my room and wait for me", I said to Leona.

"Why are you sweating like that?", asked my mom.

"Mom I don't know,  maybe I am ill. When I went outside, the sun was so hot it was unbearable but Loena said it really wasn't. May I have some water and can Leona stay."

"She might as well, she is already here afterall. Why don't you go upstairs to your bathroom and have a cool shower and see if it helps."

I drank the water and went upstairs. I told Leona my mom said it was OK for her to stay and submerged myself into a tub of cool water. I felt an instant release but I didn't know how long it would last.
