She thought there was no happiness left within her after her torture, but a crumb was left. It showed when she saw Diana and now more came forth at the sight of Kade.
"It's good to see you again, Your Majesty. You look beautiful."
Morgan blushed at his compliment and looked down at the gown pooled at her feet.
"Thank you." she replied in a shy voice. She alone had the attention of the two hottest men in the Underworld. That was an accomplishment.
"Dance with me?" he asked, his hand extending to accept hers.
"I- I..."
"Please? Don't make me beg." he added for good measure and Morgan could feel her will crumbling. Oh, what's the worse that could happen?
Morgan knew the answer to that but she didn't want to think about it. She called a servant to hold her unfinished drink and placed her smaller hand in Kade's. They stood closer to the edge of the dancing guests and moved slower while everyone moved faster in tune with the music. Kade pulled her body close to his, his hand hovering close to the curve of her bottom. He rocked her gently and Morgan released a soft sigh and relaxed in his arms. She looked up at his thick shimmering lips then to his light blue eyes that also watched her. Kade gave her a knowing smirk that he knew even she wasn't immune to his gorgeous looks which made Morgan roll her eyes in return. She laid her head on his shoulder as he rocked them in a circle.
"Have you spoken to him yet?" Kade asked and Morgan's body instantly went rigid. She knew who he meant.
"Who are you talking about?" Morgan feigned ignorance as if she didn't know who he was referring to. Kade chuckled at her question. The vibration of his laugh flowed into her and she in turn chuckled as well.
"Acting clueless are we?"
"Yes we are." Morgan replied and hugged her friend closer.
It had been a while since she felt safe and at peace. She wondered if Kade would help to free her from this prison.
"It was Mignon who kidnapped Mercer. She did it just so she could torment me." Morgan confessed suddenly.
Kade held her still and pulled away so he could look at her face, but his was one of confusion.
"Morgan, what are you talking about?"
"My mother. She took Mercer as some sort of twisted punishment for me." Morgan repeated and his brows drew closer together as he looked at her. Kade's face suddenly changed as realization finally dawned on him.
"She didn't tell you did she?"
"Tell me what?" her anxiety kicked in the minute she asked.
"My mercenaries found Mercer a day after you were taken by your mother. He was found in an abandoned medical facility on the outskirts of the city unharmed, except for a few needle wounds."
"What?!"
Morgan felt sick to her stomach. Who would do that to a baby?! She felt like she was going to faint right then and there.
"We brought him to your mother immediately who ungratefully compensated my men. I tried to bargain for your release but she refused and almost took my head for even asking. Diana and I tried again, even requested to at least visit you but she wouldn't allow it. I'm so sorry, I should've done more to get you out of there."
Morgan felt as if she was just told the worst news of her life. Why was her life like this?! Why did her mother hate her so? To keep her locked up for days, maybe even weeks, questioning her about a kidnapping she had nothing to do with. Her baby was already safe and sound throughout the ordeal. Morgan had now lost count of how many times her feeble heart had been shattered to pieces. Each time she found joy, the other shoe fell and sent her right back into that dark place where she belonged. Flashes of her torture conquered her mind. Morgan began trembling and her body felt cold. Her shoulders sagged and she pulled away from Kade, she felt dirty as she remembered the dungeon masters' fingers touching all over her body and cutting her in places they shouldn't. She wanted to be alone.
