Y/n and Harry had planned to meet each other in the Gryffindor common room, to walk to Umbridge's office for detention, together. Harry's hands intertwined Y/n's.
'We're gonna be alright, aren't we?', Y/n asked uncertainly.
'Yes', Harry said stiffly. 'Do you think that woman's gonna kill us or something?'
'No, Harry.... She... I read her mind..'
'Wh--Okay...'
'She was thinking, "This Brilliant fool will be useful for me " and "I will teach you a lesson Y/n Malfoy"', Y/n said with an imitation of her voice, she sighed and turned away.
'Awful she is!', Harry said. 'Y/n, at least you got this only for a day... I got this whole week! And Angelina was scolding me, 'cause we have tryouts this Friday'
Y/n frowned.
'Look, this is not even a problem,.. It's just detention.. like I used to get around twenty detentions every year...', He cupped her face. 'Y/n, I promise you one thing.... I will stand by your side and be your Knight in shining armour...'
'I believe you, Harry... And I always will', she said. Harry gave a quick peck on her lips before they started walking through the noisy corridors. They knocked on the door.
The room was covered in pink. The surfaces had all been draped in lacy covers and cloths. There were several vases full of dried flowers, each residing on its own doily, and on one of the walls was a collection of ornamental plates, each decorated with a large technicolor kitten wearing a different bow around its neck. These were so foul that Harry stared at them, transfixed, until Professor Umbridge spoke again.
'Good evening, Mr. Potter and Ms. Malfoy'
Harry started and looked around. He had not noticed her at first because she was wearing a luridly flowered set of robes that blended only too well with the tablecloth on the desk behind her.
'Evening,' Harry said stiffly, while Y/n said, 'Evening, Professor Umbridge'. Because who'll bid her 'Good' day...
'Well, sit down,' she said, pointing toward a small table draped in lace beside which she had drawn up a straight-backed chair. A piece of blank parchment lay on the table, apparently waiting for them. They took seats closer to each other.
'Er,' said Harry, without moving. 'Professor Umbridge? Er — before we start, I-I wanted to ask you . . . a favor.'
Her bulging eyes narrowed. 'Oh yes?'
'Well I'm . . . I'm on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. And I was supposed to be at the tryouts for the new Keeper at five o'clock on Friday and I was — was wondering whether I could skip detention that night and do it — do it another night . . . instead . . .'
He knew long before he reached the end of his sentence that it was no good.
'Oh no,' said Umbridge, smiling so widely that she looked as though she had just swallowed a particularly juicy fly. 'Oh no, no, no. This is your punishment for spreading evil, nasty, attention-seeking stories, Mr. Potter, and punishments certainly cannot be adjusted to suit the guilty one's convenience. No, you will come here at five o'clock tomorrow, and the next day, and on Friday too, and you will do your detentions as planned. I think it's rather a good thing that you are missing something you really want to do. It ought to reinforce the lesson I am trying to teach you."
Harry felt the blood surge to his head and heard a thumping noise in his ears. So he told evil, nasty, attention-seeking stories, did he?
'And, Miss Malfoy', she turned her gaze towards Y/n. 'I hope you too will want to go on Friday evening...''Yes, professor... But I'm not going to ask you permission', she quickly added.
'Oh, very well... but you too must come on every 5.pm this week.'
Y/n didn't argue. She rummaged her bag to get her quill and ink--
'No, not with your quill', she said. ' You're going to be using a rather special one of mine. Here you are.'
She handed them a long, thin, slender black quill with an unusually sharp point.
'I want you to write "I must not tell lies ",' she told him softly.'How many times?' Harry asked, with a creditable imitation of politeness.
'Oh, as long as it takes for the message to sink in,' said Umbridge sweetly. 'Off you go.'
'Miss Malfoy, I want you to write, "I will not come late to class "'She moved over to her desk, sat down, and bent over a stack of parchment that looked like essays for marking. Harry raised the sharp black quill and then realized what was missing.
'You haven't given us any ink,' he said.
'Should we use our own ink?'
'Oh, you won't need ink..but you will need something of your own to write,' said Professor Umbridge with the merest suggestion of a laugh in her voice.
Y/n and Harry exchanged mere looks of annoyance, She placed the point of the quill on the paper and wrote: 𝓘 𝔀𝓲𝓵𝓵 𝓷𝓸𝓽 𝓬𝓸𝓶𝓮 𝓛𝓪𝓽𝓮 𝓽𝓸 𝓬𝓵𝓪𝓼𝓼
She felt a bit of pain. The words had appeared on the parchment in what appeared to be shining red ink. At the same time, the words had appeared on the back of Y/n's right hand, cut into her skin as though traced there by a scalpel — yet even as he stared at the shining cut, the skin healed over again, leaving the place where it had been slightly redder than before but quite smooth.
She realized Umbridge's words, but you will need something of your own to write. She turned to Harry, who had just started to write the second word. She tried calling him in a low voice.
She was watching them, her wide, toadlike mouth stretched in a smile. 'Yes?'
'Nothing,' said Y/n.
Harry looked at Y/n and then back at the parchment, placed the quill upon it once again and completed the first line: 𝐼 𝓂𝓊𝓈𝓉 𝓃𝑜𝓉 𝓉𝑒𝓁𝓁 𝓁𝒾𝑒𝓈
Y/n watched the words appear on his hands. Harry looked at it for a second, and turned to meet Y/n's eyes. Her lips narrowed as she nodded her head sceptically as she read Umbridge's thoughts once again, "You'll get to know that you are really useful for me, Malfoy "
