Minefields

Savannah's mind was a minefield, Loki decided. You walked as cautiously as you could, but you would get blown up in the end.

And her foster carers.

No wonder she couldn't remember them. He looked at the mortal next to him, and frowned. How could she possibly sleep after all of the things that had happened to her?

The Winters family were disturbed. They had had three other children, all of which had left for college by the time Savannah was fostered, and those children were all male.

Loki knew that that was important, but Savannah's mind was complex, and he couldn't quite understand her five-year old mind. The father was called James, and the mother was called Henrietta.

An unfortunate name.

Both James and Henrietta were scientists, and they had conducted experiments on the young Savannah, testing her intelligence and strength, both which were above average, for an adult man.

Savannah had powers then, too, but her carers could not understand them. The fire was a result of the tests they did on her, and while James and Henrietta perished, the flames did not touch Savannah.

They burnt around her though, and formed distinct impressions. She looked similar to her other form, except her wing shapes were more than faint impressions. They were fiery wings, and her skin shimmered. Her eyes were an intense black, with no pupil, iris or whites. Her hair was moving, swaying as if a breeze was wafting it.

Her five-year old body seemed to hold power over the elements, and Loki realised, with a shock, that she was hovering a few feet above the ground. She was crying, and her body was shaking. She was terrified, and she clenched her fists. Her eyes saw something on the other side of the room, and she collapsed.

It was a mirror, and behind her stood the three brothers.

Now Loki knew what was wrong. While she stayed with the family, the brothers never came once. Yet, somehow, she had them in her memories. There were pictures of them all around the Winters household, but none of Savannah. She had met them though, under different circumstances.

For they were her captors.
