Savannah was back on the ledge again.
And someone was next to her.
She started to shake uncontrollably, spasms shaking her body, each one bringing her closer to the edge. Then she was a hairsbreadth away from falling, and strong warm arms enveloped her.
Coconut-scented arms.
'Nathan?' Savannah looked up shyly.
'Are you okay?'
'Yes, just a little shaken.'
'You frightened me there. Are you sure you're fine?'
'Yes. I didn't mean to frighten you, sorry.'
'It's okay.'
No, it's not, she wanted to say. She wanted to scream it, make sure that the whole world knew that nothing was okay.
She didn't.
'Just a bad memory, that's all.'
Nathan tightened his grip around her, as if he could protect her from the wickedness in the world, and she burrowed her head deeper into his chest. He wasn't Loki, but it was better than nothing. Nathan stroked her hair gently, as she cried into his sweater. They were still on the ledge, but Savannah didn't care.
Maybe he could protect her.
Loki chose that moment to stride in, a smirk on his face.
It was wiped off when he recognised the couple holding each other on the roof's edge, and promptly changed into a scowl.
'Who are you?' Loki asked, coldly.
'I could ask the same of you.'
Loki straightened slightly, and Savannah sighed inwardly. He was going to do his 'glorious purpose' speech again, wasn't he?
'I am Loki, of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.'
Savannah cut in, before Nathan could say something.
'Hey, Loki, this is Nathan. We go way back.'
And Savannah would swear on whatever, that she saw a flicker of jealousy cross Loki's face, as he reached out to shake the proferred hand.
It was a fool's fancy.
