Everything was perfect. Savannah was in his arms, sleeping peacefully, Stark was suitably pissed off with him, and The Avengers (other than Tony), were not trying to kill him. Everything was perfect, so of course nothing was right.
Sometimes, Loki hated being right.
The alarm in Stark Tower went off, and Savannah woke up with a start, trembling slightly.
'Loki?'
'Shush, now, we need to get ready for battle.'
'Battle?'
'Yes.'
'Bet I can get ready before you.' Savannah said, and then glared at him. 'That's cheating.'
'No one said anything about magic.'
'I don't like you.'
'Not even a little bit?'
'Nope.'
The battle was pretty mediocre, until all of the creatures grouped together, climbing on top of one another in a freaky alien-pyramid, and their combined forms shivered for a second, before transforming into an image of a purple-faced thing, covered in scars. It had large lips, and a very small nose, and its eyes were sunken into its head, and were partially obscured by its Neanderthalean brow.
You failed, Loki. Your retribution is coming, we will find you. Soon you will wish you had never been born.
The laugh that followed sent shivers down her spine. Not in the sexy way that Loki's did, but in a way that spoke of hate older than time itself. The shivers were tremours of fear.
Who was he?
Thanos.
The image shimmered again, and transformed into a mirror, clearly to affect Savannah. It would have, if she had not turned to the source of the small moan, only to find Loki plummeting, helplessly, to the concrete, hundreds of feet below.
'Loki!' she screamed. He had already hit the ground.
It had been perfect, now there was only pain.
Well, at least Tony was still pissed with him.
