Loki walked (limped) into Savannah's bedroom, and sat down next to her. He had lied about the nightmare, but he knew that she was to have one soon. He briefly debated climbing into her bed, but soon realised that while he may fit under normal circumstances, the bandages and hard casts he was currently swathed in would make it near impossible. He settled for stroking her hair, singing softly under his breath. Loki had a beautiful voice, both mournful, and melodic, but he rarely sang. In fact, he hadn't sung in over five-hundred years. Savannah started to jerk, as if she were struggling against invisible bonds, so Loki sang more audibly. She soon stilled, and leaned closer to him, murmuring under her breath. Loki leaned closer, to catch her words.
'Loki, Loki, Loki.' She was chanting his name, over and over. 'Loki, Loki, Loki.'
'Hush, pet, I'm here.'
'Oh Loki, I'm so scared.'
'Sssh, now, I shall protect you. You are safe.'
'They are coming, coming, coming.'
'Who? Who are they?'
'Coming, coming, coming.'
'Savannah?'
'Coming, the men are c-c-coming. Help me, help me, help me please. Somebody stop them. Help me.'
'Savannah?'
She screamed, a long, drawn out shriek of terror, pure terror. She started jerking again, and reached out to scratch Loki. He pulled back, reluctantly, but continued stroking her hair. She hissed, and turned blue. Loki knew that she would end up hurting him again, but he still pulled her into a tight hug on his lap, singing louder. Savannah stopped moving for a second, and tears fell freely from her closed eyes.
'Loki?'
'Yes pet?' She was sleep-talking, but he hoped the sound of his voice would soothe her.
'Loki? Loki? Loki?'
'I'm here, sssh now.' Savannah's eyes snapped open, but her eyes were grey, not green. Her skin faded, and once she was at her normal skin tone, she snuffled gently.
'Thank you, Loki.'
'No need to thank me, I know what it is like to have nightmares.'
'Loki?'
'Yes?'
'Will you sing for me?'
'Of course.'
He sung a song, which seemed to have no words. She could tell that it was about oceans though, and golden palaces, blue skies with permanent stars, and long stone halls which echoed with the sound of bare feet. It painted a picture in her mind, one which spoke of home. The song ended, and she sighed wistfully.
'Was that of Asgard?'
'Yes.' Loki sighed, sadly. 'I fear that I can never return.'
'Oh, Loki. Are you okay?'
'Yes. Just a little homesick.'
'Why don't you sing more?'
'In Asgard, magic was a women's gift. I was already ridiculed, why would I showcase my singing abilities too?'
'But-'
'Asgard is a warrior realm, Savannah.'
'Was the song in Old Norse?'
'Yes. Beautiful, isn't it?'
'Very.'
Loki smiled, and carried her to his room.
