The Real World,
3rd Person:

The current day for everyone was transformative. Four months of summer without Damon, Chris and Bonnie had changed them all

Some in denial like Elena, who was now studying to become a doctor while simultaneously spending her free time with a ghost hallucinogenic Damon

Some haven't given up hope like Caroline, who had dropped out of college to focus all her effort on finding a magical way to bring their dead friends and their home back. She didn't want to let go yet

Some have wollowed in self pity like Stefan, who had moved away to try and find leads on how to bring them back but had slowly gave up and had started a fake life and Jeremy, who had spent his summer playing video games drunk with one girl after another to try and get over losing Bonnie

While some have tried to find the silver line like Matt, who had focused his efforts on becoming more physically adept even though the crime rate in Mystic Falls had dropped majorly since no vampire or supernatural creature could enter the town

On the other hand, Alaric was trying to get used to being equal to an Original Vampire and learning to control and adept to his blood lust since he had now become a college professor as he couldn't exactly walk back into Mystic Falls and compel his job back

Mystic Falls Border:

After having called Elena who was still pretending she never lost Damon, Caroline sighed heavily and sat down at the picnic she was having with her mother "Anyway, as I was saying, I haven't exactly found a spell that can undo an anti-magic border per se, but this book mentions Travelers. Which isn't all that helpful, but at least it puts us a step in the right direction"

"Sweetheart..." Liz said to stop her rambling

"Yeah?"

"You should go with Elena and Tyler tomorrow" She told her daughter so she could go and enjoy something with her friends

"No, we're going to go and see a movie!" Caroline reminded her

"We have spent the entire summer together. You can do something without me for one moment you know"

"Oh, God. You're sick of me.." Caroline huffed

"Caroline, you just lost not one but two of your best friends all in one. It makes sense that you want to hold on to what's familiar, but Elena lost them both too. And she clearly misses you"

"No. Elena has clearly taken up residency on planet denial, where football is more important than her boyfriend being swept away into oblivion. Do you know she has barely cried for him? I mean, she was a full on wreck over Chris and Bonnie for about three months straight. But when you mention Damon, it's like nothing ever happened"

"Caroline, Elena has experienced more grief than anyone I've ever met. You should cut her some slack" Liz's phone then started buzzing which interrupted their conversation making Caroline sigh

"What now. Did someone trample over Ms.Davis' flowerbed again?"

"Two kids were admitted to the hospital with suspicious wounds on their necks" Liz informed her

"Vampire attacks? How? Vampires can't get into Mystic Falls"

"No, but they can lurk around the borders" Liz then stood up to leave while forgetting to pack up her picnic basket "I gotta cut lunch short. That's it. I gotta take care of this. But listen, consider Elena's offer, okay? Mystic Falls isn't going anywhere"
