As I continued to watch the sunset, I heard footsteps behind me. It was Dagger and his friend, Miles. "Oh, glad to see you're back." Dagger smiled and the two sat down next to me. "Yeah, we got back a couple minutes ago. Noticed you over here and thought we'd join you."
It was quiet for a bit, all of us just watching the sunset, not feeling the need to make conversation. That is until I heard Dagger speak up, his voice a bit quieter than normal. "Hey Lucifer, I have a question actually." I looked down at him, a bit curious. "What's up?"
"Are you from this universe or mine? Or like, are you from another one? I've been a bit curious about it, because I know vessels aren't exactly common, so it feels weird that you'd be from either of them because of how many others are already there, y'know?" That had certainly not been the question I was expecting, but I looked back out at the sky, which was now filling with stars. "You are right about that, I'm not from either of those universes. I'm not really from any specific one anymore, I just travel."
"But were you? Had you been from another universe?" I nod with a sigh. "Yes, but it's sense been abandoned. Practically destroyed. It's not exactly somewhere I can live in anymore. Plus, traveling makes my job of reaping souls a bit easier." It was quiet again for a few moments. "What had your life been like? Y'know, before everything that happened to your universe to have destroyed it."
"Why are you suddenly so curious about my life, kid?" I asked, looking back down at him. "I mean, I can usually tell quite a bit about people by just looking at them and hanging out with them for a bit. You can tell a lot by a person just by observing them. But I can't really do that with you. So I guess I'm just curious, y'know?" I nod. "Yeah, I guess that does actually make a lot of sense. I suppose I could tell you a bit about how my life had been. But like, how much are you wanting to know?"
He just shrugged. "I mean as much as you want I guess. It's your story, just tell us what you're comfortable with sharing."
I think for a moment, thinking of how much I should share. "Well, the universe I was from, vessels were much more common. Merged ones, not as much, but it wasn't really considered weird to see them. There weren't any of the labs like you or Moon had been in. It was just a nice peaceful place to be, and most people were able to get along."
"I had lived near the outskirts of the town I was from, near a thick patch of woods. I had lived there pretty much a good chunk of my life, since I had been about 17 I think? Either way, I lived there with my husband and our daughter. We had a pretty normal life, nothing really crazy. Until, y'know. Everything that ended up happening to the universe, which I'd rather not get into."
"You were married? Really?" I just nod, chuckling a bit. "Yes, I was married. Are you really that surprised?" Dagger just thought for a moment. "Wait how old even are you??" I couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Not as young as you're probably assuming. I'm 31."
"Ok yeah, you're a lot older than I thought you were. I thought you were like, maybe 22 at most." I chuckled a bit. "I guess I'll take that as a compliment?" I just shook my head a bit, still laughing some. "You're an interesting kid, I'll give you that." Dagger and Miles both got up after whispering to each other for a moment, Dagger smiling at me again. "Yeah, but seriously, thanks for actually talking about it, it's nice to know a bit more about you, y'know. We're gonna head inside and get some sleep now, but really, I mean it, thanks."
The two walked back to the castle, once again leaving me along with my thoughts. The thoughts I was left with were unfortunately the not very good ones. The ones once again reminding me of everything. The destruction. The lives lost. Oi, head out of the gutter. That's all in the past, you gotta stop worrying about it all. There was nothing you or I could've done to stop it all from happening. Reaper, once again, pulling me free from a spiral of thoughts.
Try to distract yourself. Maybe do something that'll remind you of those happy thoughts. I tried to think of what I could do, and then it hit me. I need to go back to my universe real quick. I have an idea.
I teleported back, despite how little I actually wanted to be there. I went back to my old house, looking for something I knew had to still be there. What exactly are you looking for again? I heard Reaper ask. Kiren's old violin. I still remember how to play a couple of the songs he taught me, and it's a perfect way to distract myself.
I found it, then teleported back to the one spot I had been in before. It had been a while since I had played, but I figured it back out pretty easily. I decided to play the song my husband had wrote himself first. It just felt right.
The music filled the otherwise quiet night air. I felt myself getting lost in the music, much like I've always done.
{Dagger's POV (First person):}
I had dragged Miles back outside after hearing music. We both watched in amazement as Lucifer was playing the violin. What was even more interesting was what his music was doing. There were what I guess were ghosts. All around. Some were just sitting and listening to him play, some were dancing along, there were even a couple younger looking ghosts running around playing tag or something. It was honestly a beautiful sight.
What made it even crazy, Lucifer hadn't even noticed. He was too focused on playing the music that he hadn't even realized what his magic was doing as he played.
