Chapter 28

a.n. I felt a little emotional while writing this chapter and I hope that it will be able to convey all the feelings of the characters. (I also hope that you won't find the ending of this chapter too cheesy) 

"It doesn't matter" Som said. He didn't mean that. Of course Payu cheating on Som with Rain mattered, just Payu pronouncing Rain's name was like a cold dagger piercing through Som's flesh to stab his heart and stop it for good. Som always felt inferior to Payu, but this time he wasn't just inferior compared to Payu, he was inferior to Rain, who managed to conquer the man he loved.

"h... how can you say that?" Payu asked even more confused. He already felt terrible at the thought that he cheated on Som to get revenge, only to find out that he was wrong, that he should have known that Som was too devoted to him to even think about cheating on him, that Ple was still so obsessed that it was clear she could use such a trick... No, that wasn't enough. Now Payu also had to face the fact that Som was ready to justify him, to forgive him even after causing him pain.

"I'm not perfect... Payu, actually... quite the opposite. I failed to see that you were feeling oppressed, I failed to notice that you felt more like a servant than a boyfriend... how can I be mad at you after this? I... I pretty much deserved it..." Som responded. Payu wasn't even shocked anymore, he was terrified. Som's expression was so clear: tears were still flowing from his eyes down to his cheeks, but the rest of his face looked unusually calm, he just looked... broken.

Payu opened his mouth to add something, but the words died in his throat. His heart raced, now thinking about Rain and how he was going to tell him the truth. Payu had to think about his next move, a move that wasn't supposed to grant his own happiness, but the happiness of the people that were in pain around him.

"I understand that this is a... terrible situation, but it is nothing we cannot handle. I suggest we... we calm down and then we meet again to discuss... to discuss your final decision... when you're ready" Som proposed as he realized that Payu wasn't going to continue the conversation on his own. He bowed to Pete and Vegas, then he started walking to leave the room.

"Why did you say... my final decision? Why didn't you say ours?" Payu asked, now feeling the need to find an extreme amount of courage even to look at Som in the eyes.

"I've already taken my decision, Payu, I just need to hear yours" Som answered resolutely.

"Don't you think I deserve to know it?"

"Yes, I can tell you my decision already, if this is what you want... I will be happy if you decide to stay with me, to fix our relationship together... but if you believe that this isn't a path that could grant you the happiness I know you deserve, then I'll agree to end it here..." Som replied.

"So... whatever I decide... it doesn't matter?"

"Yes, Payu... it doesn't matter..."
