Chapter 51

"What's wrong, dad?" Rain asked after Payu left the apartment. Tharn looked down, he thought one last time if he was about to do the right thing and when he finally decided his next move, he sat on the sofa and asked his son to do the same. Rain followed his father's request but he couldn't help but get more and more anxious.

"It's been a year already... and although I accepted to help your father at first, I think it is time to put an end to all this" Tharn started, he had to put a lot of effort because the closer he got to the point, the more difficult it was for him to talk. Rain kept looking at him with wide eyes, as if he was waiting for the worst news he could possibly receive, and this surely didn't help Tharn.

"What are you talking about?" Rain asked as his father remained silent for too long. Tharn kept moving his fingers nervously, his son repeated the question a few times until he finally managed to answer.

"Type told you that you're incompetent... but he didn't mean it" Tharn started. Rain's preoccupation quickly turned into disappointment, he couldn't believe that after a whole year, Tharn was trying to craft such a weak excuse to make him and Type fix their dad-son relationship. Rain looked away and stood up, as a way to show that he didn't care about those words, but he still let his father continue.

"He cares about you... he cares about you so much that he doesn't want you to go through the same risks he had to face during his career. He's trying to clean his business so that you can inherit without fearing for clans to attack you..."

"Oh, so you're telling me that he just kept me out of his business because he wants me to stay safe, not because I'm the dumb son that makes everyone laugh" Rain interrupted.

"You don't understand..."

"Exactly, I don't understand. I've always been too stupid to understand. Even Kim Theerapanyakul thinks that I'm stupid, in fact he's so smart that he thinks that I'm so stupid that I can't even be a threat to his own business! Now continue, I really want to see what I'm missing because I'm too dumb to notice it" Rain interrupted again.

"The process to fix his business is risky... that's why he wanted you to stay here, so that you couldn't get involved. But he knew that you wouldn't have accepted it, you've always wanted to participate... he wanted to tell you the truth at first but then he found the easiest opportunity... something that could make you mad at him and refuse to go back to see him" Tharn explained.

"So I have to believe that Type called me stupid so that I would have accepted to move to the capital and let him finish his work without worrying about me?" Rain asked. He didn't really believe that, although he had to admit to himself that Type only manifested that kind of disappointment in his son's skills only during that fateful meaning, and that previous to that event he had always seemed quite proud of him no matter what.

"He has always worried about you..."

"Prove it"

"Why didn't he want to see you at all that month before your departure? Have you ever asked yourself why? He knew that if he saw you again he would have ruined the entire plan... he kept crying for hours as he didn't find another way to make sure that you wouldn't have come back..." Tharn said as he felt tears filling his eyes.

"If this is the truth... then call Type right now and let me talk to him" Rain ordered.
