Chapter 20

I can't lie and say that I was really going to go through with my fight against Ayden. I believe if you tell yourself and work for something despite knowing you're not going to let it happen eventually everyone else will believe the lie.

So when you suddenly drop it on them that you aren't going through with it their surprised, they believe you really tried your hardest. At least everyone but Drake would react that way.

"Saw it coming," Drake said after I told him that I wasn't going through with the fight. Drake held his hand out to Ray who gave him a 20.

Ray snarled at me as he handed it over. "Thanks alot Duck," he said sitting up from the table and leaving.

"Really?" I say incredulously at Drake who was smirking as he leaned back in a whole "believe it" type of way.

"I think you magically forgot I was training you. If you thought you'd trick me with that lame ass act you must be crazy Ducky," he says his smile widening as I make a face at the nickname of my nickname.

"Yeah whatever," I say sticking my tongue at him before I go to sit with Mary.

"So he wasn't mad," Luke said before I even sat.

"No he said he saw it coming," I say rolling my eyes.

"Damn you must be really persuading if neither Victor or Drake got mad at you for bailing-" Luke said but Mary cut him off by hitting his head as she noticed my change.

Victor wasn't mad. When I told him he just looked... disappointed. I grumpled in annoyance as it bothered me again. There was too much for me to think about. With Mike possibly moving away I didn't see a reason to fight to stay at a place that I'll be leaving.

"You want to talk about it," Mary says softly. I look up at her and force a smile.

"I'm good. Better than good since I won't be getting my ass handed to me in a few days anymore," I say faking cheerfulness and Mary eases as she believes me.

"Come with me," a voice suddenly says behind me.

I turn around confused as I stare at a thin brown haired boy looking down at me.

"I don't want to," I answer quickly and the boy furrows his brows. He seemed pretty geeky but in this place I wouldn't be surprised if he was a killer or worse a stalker.

"Hey Junior how about you introduce yourself first," Luke says mockingly as he laughs.

The boy looks to Luke and back to me. "I'm Junior, come with me," he says not even waiting for my reply as he walks out the cafeteria toward the back.

I look back at Mary and Luke. "Is this for real?"

Mary rolls her eyes and Luke just laughs. I sigh as I stand up and follow where Junior left until I saw him sitting by a tiny pond.

"Well hi I'm-"

"Duck, I know, sit down," he says cutting me off. He didn't once look up as he focused on some gadget in his hand.

It was strange having so many people calling me Duck when before Mike was the only one. I sat and distanced myself from him.

"Did he threaten you?" Junior said while still staring at the object in his hands.

For a second I thought he was talking to the object until he looked up at me when I still didn't answer.

"Oh me... who threatened who?" I say as he continues to look up at me.

For some reason his big brown eyes reminded me of someone.

He pushed his glasses farther up as he nods his head. "Ayden of course isn't that why you're not fighting."

I raise a brow in confusion. "Uh no he didn't threaten me I just don't want to fight."

Junior looked offended for a second as he sucked in a sharp breathe.

"Do you know how bad that makes the people who vouched for you look if you back down, besides you're a threat to Victor Division if your not a member, why are you a member!" he rambled and I physically backed up without realizing it.

"Wow don't get your panties in a twist it wouldn't have worked out anyways I have to move," I say as Junior looks at me angry. He was strangely adorable when angry that he suddenly made me think of a loris's eyes.

Oh god I just want to audibly aw right now so bad.

"You have to move?" he says his anger going away as he looked at me calmly again.

I smiled at his change and stopped myself before I thought of taking him home with me where I'll adopt him.

For god sakes calm down Chaya.

"Yes my brother will be moving into a college dorm and I have to go back east," I say standing up. I didn't even tell Mary yet and she is someone I not only like but actually know.

"But you never really have to do anything," Junior says looking up at me.

I smiled as he reminded me of a child. I was no better but that sentence had naive written all over it.

"I'm serious," he says standing up. I just realized that he was slightly taller than me and being five feet one, that wasn't much. "If you win your match then you prove you're here for good and can move into one of the dorms," he says smiling wide showing one of the gaps from his top teeth.

My heart burst and even though that meant I had to fight it also meant I can stay. My options were one: give up and go home or two:fight and there's a slim- very slim chance I can stay close to Chase. The odds were obvious but my heart already decided.

I scream in joy as I ran to Junior. I wrapped my arms around his thin frame and for a second I was scared I broke him because he looked like he turned blueish purple.

"Are you alright?" I say breathless but I never stopped smiling that my face felt like it'll stretch.

"He's probably not use to getting attention from a girl like that or your scream killed him," Victor said out of nowhere. I turned and he was walking out the cafeteria rubbing around his ears.

"I'm fighting Ayden," I say a little too excited.

Victor smiled and it was weird that I actually felt better with his approval. "Good because I never canceled the fight."

"What?" I say confused, "But this morning..."

He shrugged and put his hands in his pockets. "I changed my mind."

I laughed a little. "Okay I'm going home and tell Drake to give Ray his money back because I'm coming back tomorrow," I say running towards the front.

I grabbed my bike and hopped on top. Mike luckily wasn't working today and when I came home throwing the door open like the SWAT he tripped, pouring his cereal everywhere.

"You nearly gave me a heart attack Duck!" Mike shouted standing up.

Instead of replying to him I took a deep breath and started.

"I've joined an illegal fight club and my first match is in five days and I want you to come because if I win you can go to college and I can stay at Victor's dorms and we'll both be happy," I say out of breathe.

Now after saying my little speech and the reaction of Mike's face I realized this was not a good idea... not by a long shot.

"The fuck did you just say!" Mike said staring at me in complete bewilderment.

Well now, if Ayden didn't kill me Mike sure as hell was about to.
