Chapter 42

I had always been a romantic. I guess it first started when I heard the story of how my parents met.

My dad was the social butterfly, he was cool and charismatic. I guess I got my awesome personality from him. My mom on the other hand I'm nothing like... Or from what I heard. My was the opposite, she was a little bit more quiet and reserved. In class she was the nerd paying a lot of attention and writing notes furiously in her notebook.

Sounds cliche I know. But as a child hearing this story from Mike, it was like a modern day fairy tale.Throughout high school they hardly even noticed each other in fact as far as my dad knew my mom was nonexistent. Kind of like how Chase never noticed me... still doesn't. But during their sophomore years my dad was struggling to pass his exams and luckily for him my mom had been a tutor. At first they didn't get along, my dad was to blame for being so stubborn. But even though they were very different they suddenly began to feel like friends and after that it blooms into love.

A type of love I've always been dreaming of.I imagine that at any point of my life I'm going to find the man who I love forever and it will love me too. So when Chase came out as my knight in shining armor I just knew, he is the one for me.

I'm not as naive as I sound though. I know things can't always be perfect. Luckily for Mike he had experienced the perfection of family. He knew both our parents, before my dad enlisted in the army he was a mechanic. Home on the weekends ,he took pride in his father and husband duties. But when I was 6 he had been gone, taking my memories with him. Mike was 14 at the time and at first it was weird, I knew he probably felt it the hardest. Worrying about his dad and still having to take care of his little sister because my mom was out working all day. It got worse a year and a half later. When my dad died.

After the funeral my mom just wasn't the same. My grandparents came over to help take care of us for a couple of months but eventually they needed to go back home. For a year we seemed to be making it, when suddenly my mom sent us to Aunt Nina's when she had a job interview in another state. Mike told me this story so many times but it didn't get easier. My mom got a job but she couldn't afford to bring us with her and so my Aunt Nina volunteered to take care of us. It was only suppose to be for a while but it turned into years. My mom lost her job and she decided to go abroad and study, in hopes of being able to provide for us. But it's been about 8 years since then.

"Chaya are you there?" My mom asked. My heart broke a little and I bit my tongue to stop myself from saying I've always been here. I didn't even recognize my own mom's voice.

"Yeah I'm sorry... I... I don't really know what to say," I had a lot to say. But I was conflicted whether to be happy or upset. I choose to be happy. "Mom I'm so happy you called, how have you been? How is school?"

"School?" She sounded confused for a second. "Oh yeah it's going by good. I'm sorry for waiting so long to contact you... I would really like to see you."

"Really?" I asked excited, I couldn't help the bright blush and big grin that took over my face. "How soon will you be able to come? Oh Mike has winter break next week, I'm going to be visiting him, do you want to meet up there?"

She hesitated and I can hear her struggling to say something. "I don't think that's such a good idea... Mike doesn't want to see me. But I can stop by and see you before you go, I'm actually in town, I'm staying at your Aunt Nina."
