Chapter 43
I stared at the shoe box on my bed. Normally it was safely hidden in my closet. Inside was a total of 4 letters, all from my mom. 4 letters in 8 years. I never knew whether to be angry or not. My mom's letters were brief, she told me she missed me and can't wait to see me but I would have to wait. As I stared at these letters I knew I needed that call from her. She was finally here.
So I grabbed my phone and called her up. She answered right away.
"Hey Mom, I was wondering if you wanted to go out and get something to eat today?" I asked shyly playing with the letters. I had so much to ask.
"Of course, what time do you come out of school."
"I'm on vacation actually... but I have some extra classes so around 2 should be fine."
"Sure sounds perfect, there's a cute little pizza shop near by, I'll send you the address." I can tell from her voice she felt just as awkward as I did. So to save her and myself from this weird silence I told her I had class soon and we said our goodbyes.
I quickly changed into some exercising clothes. And when I passed by the mirror I quickly halted. I nearly pulled out my hair but that would only make my new emergency worse. I had multiple deep scratches on both sides of my face. I went to sleep without showering so the red gashes had dried blood on it. I had to fight the need to panic and overreact, make up and a shower could cover that right up... of course not in that order.
I finished tying my hair up and ran down the steps to the gym. It was barely 6 in the morning but I knew Drake would be practicing.
I slowly opened the gym doors and first thing that greeted me was Drake's butt. He was doing squats but it looked like he just finished because he started jumping in place. He looked nice even though he was full of sweat. But I wasn't in the mood to check him out, I didn't like to anyways. These days I felt pretty mad at him. We haven't had a movie night since the night he and I made out.
"You suck," I said loudly. Even thinking of that kiss made me mad.
Drake turned around surprised. "Wow I didn't even know you can function this early in the morning."
"It isn't as special if I do it everyday," I actually cracked a smile and felt a little better.
"Well come on let's get to work."
We spent the next six hours fighting, not just physically. "Who do you think you're calling stupid?" Drake asked glaring down at me.
"You, you big headed goose." I replied swinging a punch at his ribs. He winced and turned inward. He had fought against Class Skyfalls best fighter yesterday too. I didn't stay around to watch it but I could tell the other guy got a few good hits in. Of course it wasn't enough to win.
"Oh now you're just fighting dirty," He said mischievously. He quickly moved back and I instinctively followed. He used my moves to trip me. I started to fall backwards but instead of hitting the ground Drake caught me.
I was surprised by the action. And from the confusion on Drake's face he was too. So there we both were, Drake holding me in place his face staring at mine. Then he suddenly let me go. My head slammed hard against the ground. I kicked Drake in the chest and as if he wanted to piss me off more he started laughing.
