Chapter 31I was beyond pissed off as I stuffed my face with my breakfast. Poor Mary assumed I was mad at her and stayed quiet. I couldn't even concentrate on the fact that Luke who was sitting with us, eating his cereal was Mary's boyfriend. I planned to harass them all through breakfast and get every detail but now my mood was spoiled.
"Hey Duck you alright," Luke finally asks after the tension was too much.
"Yeah I'm just peachy," I say my teeth gritting at the thought that it was time to go train. I stood up gave them a smile that looked anything but reassuring and left.
I felt awful as I trudged all the way to the gym where Drake was already swinging madly at the punching bags. He didn't look over to see who slammed the door shut. Like he knew I'd just come.
"We have to make up for waking up late," Drake says his voice focused.
I noticed. I just didn't want to mention it. I thought he'd let it slide since I remember waking up to my alarm only for it to suddenly turn off, I fell back asleep and stayed that way until 10 a.m. I nodded in response even though he wasn't looking at me.
My first 10 minutes always involved stretching exercises. Next 30 minutes were cardio then strength, legs, arms, abs, and onward. It was just turning 4 p.m. when Drake has started packing up his stuff. I watched him curiously, the only time he's left early was when Alice personally came to fetch him.
"Where are you going?" I asked moving to sit down and drink water.
Drake looked down at me and scoffed. He swings his bag over his shoulder. "I've got something I need to do, feel free to do whatever you want," he says, I was surprised as he left.
I stood around for a little longer. It would be best to prepare for my match but I don't think I can purposely work out for 4 more hours. I pulled out my phone to send an apology text to Mike who had called me three times last night. I'm guessing he was in class since he didn't text back for ten minutes.
Just as I left the gym I spotted Mary sitting on a bench. She waved me over and since I had let out all my frustrations on the punching bag I was happier.
"Hey what's up?" I questioned as I sat beside her.
"You're not mad at me anymore, I'm sorry but Tawnie is persistent on getting new council members."
"I was mad at Drake," I say and her expression says "oh makes sense".
"How did Victor not know about you guys being together, I heard a rumor that last week that two people were kicked out because they were dating."
I also questioned why Drake was still in Victor Division when everyone knew he was sleeping around with nearly every girl here. I figured out it was because Drake was our best fighter, in fact there's rumors that he was a boxer before he came here.
"Since we're both on the council it's normal for us to be alone together but... Tawnie had walked in on us and if this gets out Victor will be pissed." Mary explains her face beet red.
"Why isn't Luke freaking out?" I questioned just as I looked over to where Luke was laughing with a group of others.
"He's going to be the one who gets kicked out, the idiot accepts that. His father is Kenneth Hampton, he won't take him back.," Mary says worried as she wipes at her eyes.
Kenneth Hampton, I recognized his name from Mike's constant ranting about how that rich bastard seems to get away with anything. The thought of Mike had my checking my phone again but he hadn't responded yet.
