Chapter 4

"Duck put the bacon down," Mike said in a high pitch squeal. He pressed his fingers against his lips as if to stop himself from squealing anymore.

"So are you going to laugh at your poor sisters' face," I lifted the bacon above the toilet, "or hide your amusement," I said batting my eyelashes while giving him a sweet smile.

"My poor little duckling, I'd never laugh at your pain," he said with fake innocence, his eyes still fixed on the bacon.

So my face looks like... well it looks bad and I was depressed. So waking up and Mike laughing at my bruised face didn't help. But I admit it was better than him knowing I had snuck out last night and this was the result. So instead I told him I had slipped in the shower. He either believed me or didn't want to know the truth. But truth was this wasn't the first time I looked beat up. When I use to do gymnastics in middle school I use to always have accidents and somehow it was always my face that suffered most.

"Well the next time I say I bumped into something and fell," I started to say as he turned his gaze to me giving me a grin. "Again," I sighed, "What will you to say?"

"Words," he said with a dopey lopsided grin. Unamused I lowered the bacon, his eyes nearly popping out of his head.

"O-Okay," he stuttered. He stood up straight and looked me dead in the eyes, his face completely serious.

My ears immediately perked up in curiosity and I should have known better because once my brother knew my defense was down he pounced for the bacon and began stuffing the strips in his mouth. stood completely dumbstruck as he ran off mumbling "Who dwa bwoss!"

I rolled my eyes but I had to admit I was feeling a lot better now. I went to my room and sat at the edge of my bed looking at my reflection through the mirror on my dresser. I sat still carefully looking at myself, calmly staring. Then when I felt my anger boil up I stomped my feet and ruffled my hands through my hair as if it was on fire.

I stopped and looked at my reflection again except now I looked even worse. I jumped back and stuffed my face into my bed yelling. "She's so gonna pay for what she did to my beautiful face!" I yelled but I made sure the pillow muffled my words so so Mike wouldn't hear anything.

I jumped into my closet throwing on a long sleeve red dress and black leggings underneath. I wrapped a brown scarf around my neck covering half my face then threw my backpack on my shoulders.

So I've never been in a fight in my life but I was extremely sneaky. And last time I checked revenge and sneaky went quite well together. I snickered evilly as I put on my boots and charged out the front door to a certain building reeking of revenge. This was war.

But not until I was half way did I notice I was in fact walking. I jumping up and down in annoyance as I stomped my feet. I can't believe I was so worked up I forgot to bring my bike. Yes I was really childish but today my patience was really low. I ignored the stares people were giving me but I didn't ignore the tap I felt on my shoulder.

I turned and glared at the brunette who was tapping my shoulder. Though it didn't have much effect since half my face was covered and all she was saw a short Asian looking blonde.

"Do you need help?" she asked. I wanted to yell at her but she looked like she truly cared. Sigh.

"No, thank you" I said as nicely as I could. But just as I was about to turn back around she spoke again..

"Do you want me to call someone for you?" she said and I turned back to her, losing patience..

And this is when she ruined my kindness. The lady had her hands on her thighs while leaning forward to be at a somewhat eye level with me. She looked at me like I was some helpless child.

"Woman, if I needed help I would have asked!" I yelled then stormed off to my destination. I did catch her sweet smile turn into one of shock though.Yes it was uncalled for but she completely exaggerated. I'm not that short to be thought of as a child, I'm 16 for god sake.

I was still fuming with anger when I stopped by a lake that was on the way towards the Victor's old building. I remembered this lake because my brother use to force me to walk with the ducks. One day when we were both sitting with our feet in the lake when a bunch of duckling came onto my lap. So ever since then he would bring me to visit the duckling. And that ladies and gentlemen is how I got my nickname.

But when I spotted the lake that duck memory was the second to come to mind. I felt my mischievous grin as I pulled a plastic bag from my backpack. And yes I always carry my bag because I never know what or when I'll need something. I began filling the ziplock bag, laughing like a maniac. Today was going to be a great day, I thought to myself. Once I was done I basically skipped the rest of the way until I stood in front of Victor's building. I knocked on the huge door and after a minute Victor opened it a little confused. I don't think people really walked up to this building and knocked.

"Nice of you to come back... and use the front door this time," he said as he moved aside to let me step in.

"Not not... not coming back wasn't an option," I replied, feeling the heat creep up my cheeks. I don't know why I thought that would be clever. "So can I ask when the hallways for the dorms are empty?" I asked moving on from the awkwardness.

But as the words slipped out my mouth I wanting to smack myself because while it originally felt like I was being sly, Victor's face made it clear that he knew I was up to something.

"12:30," He still replied. I smiled at him gratefully but before I left I turned to look at him suspiciously.

"That's when lunch starts," he said answering my suspicion. With that I said bye and I turned back around to wander up the stairs to the second floor.

"So how are the dorms organized?" I asked once again being oh so sly.

"Is there a particular room you want to know about?" Victor asked, he looked at me unamused and I instantly learned that Victor didn't play around.

But just because he was willing to answer my questions didn't mean I had to do the same.

"I just want to know... you know future reference so that after I'm accepted I know which room I want to be in." I replied throwing my hands behind my back innocently.

I didn't really need him to tell me anything because I knew his office was. And I knew this from my "fire escape inspection" last night, so at least that wasn't a big waste.

"You know you're really confident for someone who has yet to get an approval. Speaking of which you better get to it kid." He said shortly. Then he pointed to the top of the stairs where the girl who gave me the tour last night was.

"Yes sir," I said saluting him before I skipped over to the girl. "Hey Mary!" I yelled and she looked down at me in confusion. I patted her on the shoulder to give the feel as if we were good friends but it backfired and turned into a creep feeling.

"It was Mary right..." I asked as she looked at me like I had three heads. I took my hand away from her and she looked at me amused.

"Yeah it is, I just didn't expect you to be so... friendly," She replied awkwardly.

"You say that like it's a bad thing." I laughed and she seemed to relax a little more.

Maybe I came on too strong. Mike did say that I needed to act normal and to stop being such a square. Which to me was a huge compliment after all Spongebob was my favorite person in the world and he was a square.

"Well anyways I actually wanted to see what it was going to take to get your approval," I said and Mary pursed her lips in thought.

"Huh, I honestly don't know. I mean if I'm being honest you don't really have to do anything. If you want to join then you've got my approval," She said shrugging as if she hadn't just helped secure my future.

"Wow, I thought it was going to be much harder than that," I replied while rocking on the heels of my feet in joy.

"Yeah well I'm not really into making someone's life hard. To be honest Al is the one you need to worry about. From the looks of things, she really doesn't like you," Mary said and I instantly deflated at that.

I didn't like her either but it was kind of hard to stay positive when at the end of the day I did need her approval.

"Don't let it get to you though, Al doesn't like anyone. And if anything I could help you try to get her approval" Mary replied as if she knew my concern.

"You would help me?" I asked happily. Mary probably couldn't see the huge smile on my face because my scarf hide of it but she smiled back at me as if she could.

"I've got nothing against you, besides Al is annoying anyways. It's about time that someone take her off her pedestal," Mary said crossing her arms across her chest.

"You know what, you and me are going to be good friends," I said smiling evilly. And surprisingly I was really relieved to see that I could make a friend here.

"And you know I've actually got the best way to take Al off her high horse," I replied mischievously, pulling my new partner in crime by my side.
