-11:20am-
I chewed lightly on a piece of burnt toast, the crumbs falling onto my lap, itching my tanned skin. I turned my gaze to Sophia, her light green dress swaying as she stumbled into the lounge.

"When are we going?" I asked, dusting off my hands.

"In a moment, do you know what you're going to be yet?" She hummed, excitement in her tone.

"I'm not sure, do you?" I chuckled.

"I think I'm going to be a vampire" she winked, pulling a face.

"Interesting, I'm not too bothered" I shrugged.

She stuck out her tongue, watching me hop up from the warm couch, the sun beaming onto our wooden floor. Harris and Jordan soon hurried downstairs, a wide smile on each of their faces.

"Why are you so happy?" I tutted, pushing him gently.

"I love Halloween" he grinned.

I rolled my eyes jokingly, heading out to the cars. I hopped into Harris's car, Jordan calling shot gun as usual. Sophia bunched in next to me, rolling down the hot windows. I lay my head back, allowing the cool breeze to envelop me softly. The quiet music from the radio flowing through my ears, my wedges digging into my sore feet.

——————-
My eyes peered up, the packed mall coming into view as we parked up. I scanned the spooky decor, a low chuckle leaving my lips. I jumped out of the warm car, patting down my white skirt before pulling down my sun glasses. Sophia hooked onto my arm, dragging me along with her. The concrete dragging against my shoes, my legs barely keeping up with her persistence.

I glanced up at the big white ghosts, hanging from a clear wire above us, bats plastered on each wall.

"This is so cute!" Sophia exclaimed, smiling up at me.

"A bit extreme if you ask me" I hummed.

"It's Halloween tomorrow, stop being a party pooper" she nudged, her lips pouting.

I laughed at her soppy response, the sweet scent of candy apples lingering in the air. We came to a halt suddenly, standing in front of a dress up shop, a tall skeleton guarding the doors. I let out a low shriek as it jumped out at me, my heart pounding as we entered the dull shop.

Sophia wondered off with Jordan, Harris following behind me like a lost dog.

"What are you dressing up as?" I questioned, turning back at him.

"Nothing is more original than this" he winked, pulling out a ghost face costume.

"Pretty basic but hot" I praised.

My hands trailed across the costumes, pulling out a dark angel kit, the wings catching my attention.

"That's sexy" Harris taunted, nudging into me.

"It's supposed to be scary" I joked.

He rolled his eyes, placing a small kiss on my cheek before walking ahead. I glanced back down at the costume, admiring the gems on the corset. The black tutu being double layered, lace on the edges. My gaze moved back to Harris, his eyes locked onto his phone.

"Who are you messaging?" I chuckled, poking him.

"No one" he groaned, shutting his phone.

I raised my eyebrows, his face turning a shade of red. Sophia distracted me, running over to me with a vampire costume, her eyes wide.

"Look at this!!" She panted, waving it around.

"You'll look lovely" I smiled, pulling out my purse.

I headed with her to the counter, plopping down our costumes as the man scanned them. I shot a glance back over at Harris, whispering something to Jordan. I pushed up my lips, their faces lighting up in curiosity.

"That will be $54.37, when you're ready" the man coughed.

I quickly pulled out the cash, retrieving my costume as I followed Sophia outside. She sat down on a small bench, the plant behind her shaking slightly.

"Don't you think those two are acting strange?" I sighed, looking down at her.

"No? They are just excited about the party" she laughed.

"I don't know soph." I groaned, biting my cheek.

"Why, did something happen?" She presumed.

"What, no of course not." I huffed, shaking my head.

She stared at me for a moment, her eyes squinting slowly. I turned my gaze away from her prying eyes, scanning the busy mall. I don't what's gotten into Harris, he seems distracted lately. I guess it wasn't nice to find out that I'd seen bill again but he seemed fine the other day. I'm probably overthinking, although I have this strange feeling in my stomach. I need to trust him, as he did for me. I know Harris wouldn't hurt me, he's not like that.

"Wanna grab lunch?" Harris yawned, stretching his long arms.

I nodded, his arm hooking around my waist as we headed upstairs. I furrowed my brows, seeing two men suited up, one of them looking straight at me. I shook my head, glancing up at the red restaurant, the shiny lights glowing down on me.

"Excuse me ma'am" a man yelled, grabbing a hold of my shoulder.

"What?" I frowned.

"We need to speak with you, privately" he hummed, his voice strong.

I let out a sigh, motioning for Harris to go inside. He let go of my waist, my heart racing as I went with the men. They took me into a secluded area, away from the public eye. One of them pulled out a folder, my arms crossing.

"Miss, my name is Colin. We have been hired by someone to keep an eye on you for your safety but we've recently found something concerning" Colin groaned, shooting a look at his colleague.

"Hired by who??" I demanded.

"Beth Wilson." He whispered, tilting his head.

"Is this a joke?? Beth is dead." I spat, clenching my jaw.

"There's a lot to uncover here, Beth isn't dead." He added.

My mouth hung open slightly, running my hands through my knotted hair.

"Where is she? Why did she fake that?!" I sniffled, my voice shaky.

"She's in a car downstairs, waiting for you. This will all make sense soon, you need to trust us." Colin spoke, sternly.

I nodded immediately, the other man unlocking a secret staircase behind us. I quickly followed behind him, the green stairs barely stable..
