The dinner was somewhat tense. Clearly, King Baltazar was a dangerous individual. Even the cool & collected Lady Liryn seated beside him was nervous every time he spoke to her.
King Kaidan and Courtier Daro skillfully kept the conversation civil and productive whenever Velaanian courtiers bristled at the King's bluntness or thinly veiled insults.
Again and again his fiery eyes turned to Aurelia. "I'd heard rumours of humans in Sarana. I see they were true."
She swallowed. "Yes, your highness."
The entire table tensed, and at least three people frantically whispered to her, "You must always address kings as Your Majesty, only princes and princesses are addressed with Your Highness."
She blanched. "O-oh, please forgive me, I did-"
Baltazar held up a hand. "You are pardoned. Now, have you learned any magic yet?"
Daro cleared her throat and replied, "I will show them spells tonight, sire. I do not know whether humans will have any connection to the energy of magic, but I will be most thorough in my attempts to spark that connection."
He nodded. "Good." His eyes flicked between the humans. "You will inform me of your progress."
"...Alright."
"Very well, Your Majesty."
