Very glad for dinner to be over, they changed and met Siobhan and Lady Daro in the mage's laboratory.
Daro sighed heavily, though given her slight frame, the sound still managed to sound delicate somehow. "The king is right. You'll be in danger without magic protection. We'll teach you."
Daro showed them the spell circle. "Feel the heat gather in your fingertips. Envision the flame."
Siobhan came behind Aurelia and adjusted her hand. "Like this, see?"
Aurelia felt nothing, but Alexan - "Woah! My hand is glowing!! Ray?! You see this?"
"Well done," the witch laughed.
Daro smiled. "Just so."
Their hand trembled slightly as the glow dissipated, and they started rambling. "So, we know your gran's necklace has the runes that were used to create magic itself. Maybe she gave it to you so you would be able to cast magic if you ever made it to the magic realm. Right?"
Their friend nodded. "Yes. Somehow she found this and brought it back with her? Assuming she was ever here herself."
Alexan unclasped it, putting it around her neck. "Here, you try it."
Daro and Siobhan came on either side of her, showing the spell circles again. They gently encouraged her while Alexan tried again off to the side.
"I did it again! I almost got a spark this time, I could feel it!"
Aurelia smiled, "Wow! This is crazy!" But despite her best efforts for the rest of the night, nothing glowed for her. So she gave the necklace back and they called it a night.
