Baltazar soon arranged to take Aurelia to the Valaanian Archives to see dark elf plants. Their tour was guided by the chief archivist, Lady Liryn, who seemed nervous, glancing at the glaring king.
She laid out books and terrariums, capturing Aurelia's attention for hours, while the king finally ensconced himself in an armchair to watch on in amusement.
Unnerved by the lady's avoidant attitude, she finally whispered, "Liana, what's wrong?"
Her dark eyes met the human's green for the first time all day, and she swallowed, "His Majesty warned me away from you."
He sipped champagne from the side, clearing his throat to disrupt the less-than-private conversation. "You, archivist. Have you found any scrolls on my niece yet?"
The jackal-woman shook her head. "Nothing yet, sire. I've searched high and low."
Aurelia gasped. "Y-your neice? I thought the lost Kahnrey heir was a man?"
He scoffed and muttered into his glass, "...The troublesome brat."
