The next morning the court gathered at first light. King Kaidan took his throne with the royal scepter which would be used to show the verdict.
"Bring forward the accused."
Aurelia could hear the crowd whispering around her as the guards brought the mage forward.
"Daro Drei, Mage of the Velaanian court, Ghoul of the Forests. The courtiers of the disciplinary council have determined your fate."
The deer-woman weeped quietly as she awaited the sentence.
"Your sentence is to serve this court for no less than two years as Ecological Advisor."
The royal scepter glowed white. The courtiers burst into murmurs and applause, and Daro gasped in shock.
