During the brightest time of the day, King Kaidan took a break from court duties to take Aurelia to the edge of the city. For once, he did not wear a cape or jacket, his unusually simple shirt decorated with a glittering arm band with stones the blue colour of his eyes.
He smiled at her as she peeked beyond the field to the fantastical buildings beyond. "This is the place my mother taught me archery. Allow me to teach you, milady."
"Alright." Her heart clamoured in nervous excitement as his strong arms helped her to hold the strange looking bow. It had two thick golden strings humming with energy.
"Elemental magic powers this. We'll start with water. Now, draw back, breathe in, aim, and release."
They stayed out together until sunset, practicing, talking, and laughing like old friends, blushing like fools.
