'22'

You always know that it will come the day you turn 22,
But then you remember that your parents are getting older too,
You're afraid to look in the future through their eyes,
For they will be gone as the time passes by.

Everything changes when you noticed the smile that your father have,
And the way he slowly walks when he took out the trash,
The creasing on his eyes started to become prominent,
And then you realised his presence won't be permanent.

Maybe it was the time you came back from college that day,
Your mother cooked the food you told her the other day,
Then you wonder how much time you have in your hand,
Time wasted away from her in another foreign land.

Oh darling, I know you wish you will never grow up,
Things will stay simple, and you will still have your sippy cup,
But paying the bill is now a chore to do,
Attending your friends' weddings is also on the to-do list too.

Looking back time, how you wish you enjoyed it a bit more,
Now that everything's gone you started to miss it to your core,
The older you get but still 18 in your fantasy,
How you wanted everything to stay the way it should be.

Even when you feel like you're wasting your youth,
Saying "Good thing takes time" for your anxiety to finally soothe,
Now basically you're on your own,
It's time for you to make decisions alone.
