37. The Monster

Roman's POV: I had a long day at work. Some of the guys asked me if I wanted to go have some drinks after work. I decided to go with them. We went to a bar. Me, a guy named Tony and Mario. We were having a good time.

Tony: man it feels good to be off work!

Mario: yeah, I'm trying to find me a broad to go home with.

They laughed. I gave a half smile.

Tony: Mr. Roman here is the family man. Wife and children

I laughed.

Me: yeah and what's wrong with that?

Tony: nothing man, she's a beauty. You're one lucky guy.

I didn't know how to feel about that comment, so I just shook it off and kept drinking my beer.

Just then these guys walked in. Tony became very irate.

Tony: that son of a bitch! I'm going to kill him, he owes me some money.

Me and Mario stared at him.

Me: dude chill, don't cause a scene here.

Mario: yeah we'll get him later.

Later on, the guy went to the bathroom, we followed him. We jumped him. Tony almost killed the guy we had to him to back off. I had blood all over my clothes. I had to get home to my wife. Did I feel about what just happened? No, we're in the drug business not selling cookies or candy. You fuck with our money you had to pay. Simple as that. I drove home.

Diamond's POV: I sat in bed waiting for Roman. It was well way past 1 a.m. I tried not to cry but tears filled my eyes. Little Ryan was moving around, causing a little pressure. I needed my husband. He promised not to come home late again, yet here it is he's fuckin late. I always fall for his charm and bullshit. That's how he gets me. Just then Romeo walked in. I picked him up and placed him in bed.

Romeo: mommy I had bad dream.

I hugged and kissed him.

Me: it's okay honey I'm right here. Where is your sister is she sleeping?

Romeo: yes.

Me: okay.

I held him tight and rocked him.

Me: do you wanna tell mommy what your dream was about?

Romeo: monster, mean, bad monster.

I felt like crying because I felt like I was living with a monster so I could definitely relate to his little feelings.

Me: I'm sorry sweetheart. Mommy's here. I won't let the monster get you my sweet baby.

Romeo: thank you mommy!

I kissed his little cheeks, he fell asleep. Just then Roman came through the front door. He walked into the bedroom. I was shocked at what I saw.

Roman: hi baby.

Me: Roman why is there blood on your clothes??

He glared at me. He took off his shirt.

Roman: I had a little accident. Nothing major.

I didn't believe him at all.

Roman: is little man okay?

Me: yes, he just had a nightmare. I was getting ready to put him back in his bed.

Roman: I'll do it for you.

He grabbed him, kissed him and took him into his room. Roman came back.

Me: Roman it's after 1 a.m where were you?

Roman: I went out for drinks with colleagues Tony and Mario.

Me: you couldn't have called home?

Roman: diamond, please stop. I'm sorry okay. Can you please drop it?

I felt hurt.

Me: I was worried that's all.

Roman: I understand but don't worry I'm fine. I'm going to take a shower. He went into the bathroom. I sat there and cried. I stared at his bloody shirt, there blood on the sleeves. This was definitely not Roman's blood. I become frightened. He came out of the shower, he put on sweat pants and got into bed.

Me: Roman did you kill somebody?

He glared at me, he was angry.

Roman: diamond what the fuck no!!

Me: did you hurt someone?

Roman: diamond drop it damn!!

Me: omg you did didn't you? I sobbed. He hugged me.

Roman: shh, no I didn't babe. I broke up a fight between tony and some guy, he was going to kill the guy if I didn't. That's where the blood came from.

Me: omg are you okay? I hugged him.

Roman: yes I'm fine. Don't worry. Don't stress the baby.

We kissed, he held me, we fell asleep.

The next morning, I was at work. Maria was crying. I consoled her.

Me: Maria what's wrong?

Maria: it's my cousin Dominic, last night he was attacked by 3 guys at a bar. He's in the hospital.

I instantly felt sick. Somehow I felt like Roman had something to do with it. I hugged her.

Me: do they know who did it?

Maria: no they have no suspects, no witnesses nothing.

Me: shh, don't worry. I'm sure they will find out something soon.

She cried on my shoulder, I held her. My gut told me that Roman was involved. My heart was so heavy. How could he do that? And why? I was living with a monster. I was beginning to fear him. My own husband, my kids father, the man I loved. I was hurt .
