In the dim glow of our new home, shadows clung to the corners as I walked aimlessly through rooms, the weight of the shocking revelation palpable in the air. Each step carried a mix of confusion and disbelief, and the echo of my thoughts reverberated in the silent spaces around me. The world around me seemed transformed, as if seen through a new, unsettling lens. The gravity of the revelation kept me in motion, a restless dance that mirrored the whirlwind of emotions within.
As the first light of dawn painted the sky, I found myself drawn to the front window, the earlier shock now tempered by the soft hues of sunrise. Silhouetted against the warming glow, my gaze held a mix of contemplation and acceptance. The world outside slowly awakened, casting a gentle warmth on my face, and the horizon embraced a new day.
Padding quietly into our bedroom, I picked up the dagger and really got a good look at it. It made so much sense. An almost white silver blade with a pure white bone hilt. Staring at it closely, the carvings on the hilt even resembled some of the Gojo clan’s distinctive carvings.
His actions, his words, everything came together making my stomach twist in knots. That's why he wanted Akie to be born. That's why he started training to protect me. It was him all along. From the very beginning he was always with me.
My eyes flicked to Satoru still sleeping soundly, his body curled around my pillow with his head resting on the sheets. Is that what the spirit told him? He'd been surprised about Akie for sure, so I don't think the spirit had told him about her. He must have known it was him inside there since that night.
I sat at the end of our bed, staring at the dagger in my hands. What could have possessed him to do this? What would drive him to become a cursed tool and how did he make sure it came to me? Surely he intended it to be this way? From the first time I could speak to him he was trying to help me.
Holding it close to my chest, I felt incredibly conflicted. If he felt the need to become a cursed tool to help me, what did that mean for our future?
The current Satoru stirred behind me, and I held my breath. I tried to calm myself quickly, but it was too late.
“Sarah?” He mumbled, “You okay? What's wrong, sweetheart?”
I sighed, “Satoru… did you know the spirit in the dagger is you?”
He groaned, stretching his legs so hard the bed shook, “Mm, what? The knife guy? Yeah he told me.”
“Why didn't he want me to know?” I asked, turning to Satoru.
He scratched his chin a little, sitting up slightly, “He is afraid you would hesitate when the time comes. I think he's right personally. You tend to overthink things and if you hesitate when this thing happens then you'd have a lot of bullshit to go through.”
I glared at him, “Really?”
He shrugged, “You asked.”
I sighed heavily, sheathing the dagger again and placing it on the dresser. Turning around, I crawled back into bed and collapsed next to him. He dropped his own head back down and reached his arms out, pulling me against his chest.
“Listen, I trust you to do what you need to do when we get there.” He whispered, “So don't think too hard about it and just follow your instincts. You can do this.”
Nuzzling my head against his chest, I sighed again, “I hope you're right.”
“How about we-”
Akie’s loud hungry cry echoed out from her room and both of us groaned. I sat up again, my eyes feeling heavy while I wrapped my robe around a bit tighter.
