“So, I have a theory.” Shoko said, sitting down in the infirmary on her rolling chair, “In order for us to make sure Okkotsu has his awakening, he needs to believe Geto is dangerous, right?”
I nodded, sitting across from her on one of the cots, “Right. The simulacrum looks good enough, but Suguru is clearly not dangerous. I mean he's literally chasing butterflies with a big ass panda and a three year old right now.”
“Correct.” Shoko said, nodding, “So, my theory is that your blood may be able to show someone glimpses of different realities.”
“Uh… what?” I stared at her, “Why would you think that?”
“Well,” she picked up a clipboard, “Over the years I've been keeping track of the hallucinations your healing causes.”
“ It causes hallucinations?” I asked, “Why… what?!”
“Yeah, turns out sometimes after healing anywhere between an hour and three days after receiving your blood people have been seeing short glimpses of other realities.” Shoko said calmly, crossing her legs and looking over the papers, “Nothing major, but for example Nanami reported seeing you on missions with him that you definitely didn't go with him on.”
“Huh.” I sat back, “I wonder why?”
“Since you're tied directly to the story, I believe it's because when you heal us it's taking from other realities to re-write what happened.” She said, looking up at me, “That's my guess anyway. Tengen talked to me about it once, and she told me the same thing she told you. You're not healing, you're changing it.”
“So you want to try to force it on Okkotsu?” I asked, “How are you going to do that?”
“Suguru has a nasty little worm curse that can make you hallucinate and go crazy.” Shoko started and I shuddered.
“Yeah, okay, yup. I know about that one.” I said, waving my hands, “Go on?”
She raised her eyebrow, “So, what I'm thinking is we inject the thing with your blood and teach it about that reality and have it make Okkotsu believe that hallucination is real.”
“That is dark, but I like it.” I said, pointing at her, “Do you think that will result in the same outcome though? Okkotsu also needs to break Rika’s curse. Will that count if it's just in his head?”
“Well, according to the manga,” Shoko said, “Since Okkotsu was the one who cursed her in the first place, he will be able to free her. I'm assuming it'll work just the same since he will believe it when he makes the second pact with her to defeat Geto.”
“Shoko, you're a genius.” I said, “How did you come up with this?”
“I'm just good at looking at all the assets we have.” She said calmly, “Now, I'll need to take some of your blood for a while. Hold out your arm.”
I took off my jacket, holding out my arm for her as she pulled out a syringe. Taking a few vials, she slipped them into her coat pocket and then showed me that horrible little worm curse. I glared at it. I definitely hadn't forgotten what that thing was capable of.
“So, I'm gonna inject this thing with your blood like every day until Okkotsu gets here.” She said, laying down the worm on one of the metal tables, “And that should keep it living the story out as you know it and then we'll just jam it into Okkotsu!”
“Poor kid.” I shuddered, “Hope he doesn't get upset.”
“Eh, he'll get over it.” Shoko shrugged, “Once he understands everything it'll be fine.”
