“Okkotsu has been officially accepted as of today.” Satoru said with a smile as he hung his keys by the door and slipped out of his shoes, “So were officially on the plotline again.”
I sighed, glancing over at Akie and the twins. We were back in our home again, three months after the boys were born. The assassination attempts had pretty much given up so we finally had a sense of calm again. Or at least we did until he told me that.
“Right.” I nodded, turning back to him, “So we've got until Deception 24th for Suguru to ‘attack’ and then Itadori will–”
“Hey.” He murmured, pulling me close in his arms, “Hey, shh. Relax. It's gonna be alright, okay? I promise. We'll get through it.”
I pressed my face directly into his chest and sighed heavily, just trying to relax. Slowly I was getting more stressed again as the days passed. I was spoiled by these four years, having a life with him that was unimaginably wonderful. Though we had to fight curses, aside from that things felt so mundane in the best way. Our children were happy, we all were safe, and wanted for nothing. Of course it couldn't stay that way.
“Alright.” I said, resting my chin on his chest and looking up at him, “Also, Akie used her energy to exorcize a little curse at preschool today again. No one noticed, but I felt those residuals everywhere .”
He snickered a little then cleared his throat, “Akie!” He said, walking into the living room.
She was sitting on the couch, her little face still scrunched up and mad from when I chastised her not long before Satoru got home. He knelt down in front of her and lifted her face to look at her. She bit back her tears, still wanting to be mad.
“Hey princess, you did it again huh?” He said softly, “You know you're not supposed to use your technique unless the curses are going to hurt someone right?”
She nodded, looking down at her feet again, “...yeah.”
“We don't want to scare the non-sorcerers, right? They can't see what we're doing and they won't understand it.” He explained again, “If you keep doing that we'll have to have you stay with all your grannies at the Gojo estate again.”
“NO!!” She shouted, “No they're old and boring and they just make me color all day.”
“Exactly.” Satoru nodded, “So no more using your technique unless it's dangerous. Okay?”
She nodded, “...okay.” and he picked her up and hugged her, “We're the strongest, but we still have a just a few rules. I'm sorry. You can come train with me and Megumi this weekend though, alright?”
She brightened up immediately, “Yes!! Okay!”
Satoru turned and looked at Ryousei and Kaisei. They were getting big so fast, sitting in their little bouncy chairs and smiling at him when they saw him. Their personalities were showing already, Ryou was already the braver and more demanding one and Kai was needy but patient.
I watched him for a while with our three children, feeling that stress building again. He was a good dad, loving and fun, and the thing I feared most was having him lose this life. He wouldn't admit it, but the manga made him scared. Scared of what kind of life he could have lived. Isolated and worked to the bone until he died, it was tragic.
Shaking off that thought, I went back into the living room myself to finish sorting the laundry. Satoru finally convinced me to let him hire people to do most of our house work and I couldn't believe how easy shit was. I still had to do some of it myself, I couldn't stand the idea of not doing at least some of it but I had to admit he was onto something.
