As the automatic doors swished open, I strolled into the grocery store, a subtle smirk playing on my lips. The list in my hand detailed a seemingly innocent assortment of ingredients for Japanese curry – apples, honey, carrots, and the like. Yet, the juxtaposition between the mundane task at hand and the fact that I had just executed a brutal assassination brought an unexpected amusement to my senses.

Passing by the spice aisle, I couldn't shake the irony. Here I was, comparing curry powders, contemplating the perfect blend for a cozy meal, while my recent actions lingered in the background of my thoughts. The dichotomy between a deadly operative and a casual shopper navigating the grocery aisles was not lost on me.

As I approached the checkout counter, the cashier offered a friendly smile. I reciprocated, my mind still replaying the scenes of my covert operation. The bags of groceries felt oddly incongruent with the weight of my actions.

Exiting the store, I couldn't suppress a final grin. The absurdity of my evening – the deadly precision interwoven with the domestic simplicity – struck me as comically surreal. Navigating the city streets, I made my way back to Satoru's apartment building that housed his oversized living space.

The grocery bags swung by my side, before I stopped at the entrance to Satoru's apartment. The doorman stared at me. I awkwardly tried to walk in, but he took his own awkward step to the side to block me. I cleared my throat, “I uhh…”

“It's fine.” Satoru's voice rang out as he walked out of the elevator just in time, “It's alright. She's with me.”

I sighed with relief, letting him take a couple of the grocery bags, “Oh thank God. I didn't even know what I had to say.”

“Just tell them you're my girlfriend.” He shrugged, “I'm sure that's enough.”

I followed him to the elevator and as we stepped on and the door closed I smiled up at him, “How was your day?”

He looked down at me and a soft smile played on his lips, “It was alright. It's always weird at these parent things you know. It's pretty obvious that I'm not their Dad so I get a lot of looks.”

I tilted my head, looking him over pointedly. Stark white hair, impossibly blue eyes behind dark sunglasses, ridiculously handsome face, “Oh is that the only time?”

He laughed, nudging me with the grocery bag, “No, but you know what I mean.”

He held open the door into his apartment and we dropped the bags onto the counter. As I laid out the ingredients from the bags, he stared at me expectantly, standing close and looking over his sunglasses at me with a little sparkle in his eyes.

Standing on my toes, I kissed him softly and wrapped my arms around his middle. He gave me a squeeze as well, a quiet sigh escaping from him. I could practically feel his muscles relaxing and my heart fluttered. It was absurd how quickly he'd gotten attached to me, not that I minded, but it felt as if we'd never parted through the loops already.

“I'll get Megumi and Tsumiki, okay?” He said as he stepped back, “They're really excited to meet you!”

I nodded, walking over to wash my hands, “Alright, and I'll get started on dinner.”

I saw him visibly tremble with excitement for a moment, looking at me in his kitchen, before he left down the hall with a little smile. He was so happy to have me here. It was endearing, but a bit intimidating.

Coming back around the corner, I saw him with both of the kids. Megumi, who I'd seen before, looked a bit curious despite his usual grumpy demeanor that I knew from the story. Tsumiki on the other hand looked delighted!
