Satoru held his tiny daughter close, resting her safely against his chest. Wrapped gently in a blanket, the newborn was the tiniest human he'd ever seen. Born a month prematurely, she was only four pounds and felt lighter than air to him. Out of all of their children, she looked the most like her mother with the same dark hair, same sharp eyes and round face. Her eyes were striking, lighter than even his own and constantly shining brightly.
It was like looking into a reflection of a clear sky on a glossy mirror. Glowing and shimmering they were stunning, but it was obvious that she couldn't see. Though she'd turn her head at sounds, her eyes remained still with anything moving in front of her quietly. Despite this, Satoru was already sure that she could perceive cursed energy which meant there was some hope for her vision. He was certainly able to see with his eyes completely covered, so it was likely she would be able to at least somewhat as well.
Aside from that though, she was mercifully healthy. Strong like all of his other children, she hadn't needed any extra care despite her small size. Thankfully this was the case since Sarah would be out of commission for some time. The blood loss was immense, but Toudou had gotten her to a hospital before it was too late. Her organs had taken damage and her lungs had begun to fill with fluid from heart failure. She'd had some kind of internal hemorrhaging as well, likely from Yukie being born the way she was.
Satoru had been completely distraught, unable to find his wife and daughter until just a few hours ago. He'd been out all night and then morning searching Shibuya for clues for any kind of evidence where she may have gone. Her residuals were impossible to track, spread so far and thin across everything it was too much for his already frazzled brain to deal with. When he'd finally gotten the call that Toudou had her in the hospital he finally felt like he could breathe again.
Now he was sitting on an uncomfortable chair in a quiet hospital room, listening to the hum and gentle beeping of the machines keeping his wife stable. Though he was extremely thankful to Toudou for getting her here, likely saving her life, now it was becoming frustrating. At that time, they were trying to figure out a way to sneak Shoko into the hospital. Sarah's internal damage could be repaired that way, but the hospital had her in the critical condition ward. Only Satoru was allowed in as her husband, so until she was a little better they could have no visitors.
This wouldn't stop them of course, there were all kinds of ways they could get in. Hell, Suguru was so good at talking he could probably stride right in no problem. Instead, their plan was to have Shoko pose as her doctor to get her in legally without making too much fuss. The nurses just had to make a few phone calls, but of course they hadn't yet because hospitals are notoriously slow for doing anything. Satoru wanted to just go out and raise hell, but he was just so damn tired. And furious.
She'd promised she wouldn't leave the Rope Trick. She'd promised she wouldn't speed up her time to get Yukie out faster, and yet here he was with an impossibly small baby with cursed eyes. The spirit had demanded over and over that Satoru rest so he could share their memories, but when did he have time to do that?! Yukie was frail and needed his attention. He'd need to go reassure Akie that he and Sarah were okay too. Plus all of the work that needed to be done. The higher-ups of course knew what was going on now and wanted a full report from everyone, not to mention something about discussing options for moving forward. It would have sounded like good news if he could just calm down. Everyone in the damn world wanted to talk to him, but the one person he wanted– no needed to talk to was unconscious and struggling.
Glancing down, he saw Yukie was sound asleep. He took that chance to carefully set her in the warm cradle they'd brought in the room, then settled back into his chair. Rubbing his eyes for a moment, he pulled out his phone. Of course it was going crazy, group chats sending messages way too fast, at least thirty missed calls, a bunch of voicemails. He groaned, putting it back down and ran his hands through his hair. Couldn't even watch something mind numbing online with all that mess.
