PROLOGUE.
ABU DHABI GP 2008"Papa, where're you taking me?" Dariyah, an 8 year old asked in Urdu, while looking up at her Dad as he led her down to sit on a seat in a huge open stadium.
"We're going to be watching a Car race, Dariyah." Yusuf Hamza looked down at his daughter with a smile as he watched her look around the track with curious eyes. Confusion filled the eyes of the 8 year old, "Car race? What does that mean? What's that?"
"It's when car race each other to win the Championship?" Before her dad could open his mouth, someone else who sat beside her answered her question. She looked at her left to see a pair of bright green eyes looking at her. With all the bright lights around the circuit his eyes seemed a little blue.
Green eyes seemed to be only a little older than her. He had a bandana on his head to not let any hair get into his eyes. "But why?" Dariyah's father let the two kids talk as he began to make small conversation with the man beside the boy, who he presumed as the father of the boy.
"What do you mean why?" Green eyes looked down at the short girl who had confusion written all over her tiny face.
"Why would they want to race each other with cars? Why not just have a normal running race?" Dariyah was genuinely confused as to why would grown men willingly race each other with cars. It just sounds stupid. "Isn't that risky too? 'Cause they should be going really fast then. What if someone gets hurt?"
"Yes, it is risky. But that's also the fun part. It's all about the hunger for winning and a passion for driving. This sport just happens to be a challenge for both those things. It just makes it all really interesting." This time green eyes Dad had answered before he could. He had an expression as if he knew exactly what he's talking about.
"Do you race too, sir?" Dariyah looked up at the elder man, who seemed to be listening to the kids talk as Dariyah's Dad excused himself for a minute as he had gotten a call in the middle of their conversation.
"Well, I used to. It was a long time ago, but I still remember the feeling." He looked down to watch the two kids look up to him. "But I promise you, honey. You'll never get bored of this sport. Never. And please ma'am call me, Hervè."
"All right. But only if you stop calling me ma'am, Uncle Hervè." Dariyah smiled up to the elder man. Hervè just nodded his head in acceptance. Something in Dariyah made her feel safe around Hervè and Green Eyes, something she wasn't really familiar with. Only thing Dariyah has felt when she looked at older men was uncomfortable. This was strange and she wished for it to never fade away.
"Have you never really watched a F1 race before?" Dariyah turned her attention towards Green Eyes. "What's F1?" Dariyah furrowed her eyebrows as she thought what does it mean.
"You're joking!" He suddenly exclaimed before receiving a light smack on his head by his Dad. They noticed as Dariyah looked down in embarrassment, feeling stupid.
"What he means is that F1 is what they call when these cars race each other. It's originally called Formula 1." Hervè explained, giving his son a stern glare as they noticed Dariyah frown in embarrassment.
"Yeah. That's what I meant. I'm sorry if it came out wrong." Green Eyes sheepishly apologised before lightly bumping his leg with Dariyah's causing her to look up. He showed her his brightest smile with dimples on full display to make her mood lit up. It seemed to work as he watched her smile back, her front teeth missing but she still managed to look adorable.
"Mhm. Can you explain it to me? F1, I mean. Please?" Brown Eyes met Green Eyes with a curious look.
"Sure!" There was nothing more exciting for Green Eyes than talking about F1. He gave her another dimple smile before explaining everything as simple as he could for an 8 year old to understand.
Dariyah carefully listened as he went on explaining each one of their legs tangled together. The crowds erupted with cheer as the race was about to start.
"So far from what you listened, which team do you think you'd support?" Green Eyes asked Dariyah as she heard the cars roaring.
"Ferrari! It's the only car I know. I see it everyday on my way to school. It's my favourite!" Dariyah jumped up in cheer as they watched Ferrari in pole position.
"They're my favourite too! My dream is to be competing in F1 with Ferrari." Green Eyes shared her excitement as they jumped on the stands. Green Eyes took off his Ferrari cap and placed on Dariyah's head as they cheered.
"Your dream? Are you going to be a F1 driver too?"
"Yes. I'm in go karting right now. There's still time but I'll make it. No matter what." Hervè placed his hand on his son's shoulder to give him a proud nod. Green Eyes smiled before a tissue paper and pen was placed in front of him.
"What's this?" Green Eyes asked as he looked at Dariyah holding a tissue and pen in her hands.
"Give me your autograph. I want to be your first fan." Dariyah gave him a missing tooth smile.
"But I haven't done anything yet." Green Eyes chuckled at the tiny girl.
"Doesn't matter. I know you'll do great, no matter where you are." Dariyah gave him a wink with both of her eyes to which the Father-Son duo just chuckled. Green eyes signed the paper before passing it down to her. But he kept the pen in his pocket unknowingly.
Since the cap was too big on her that she was having a hard time looking at the Father-Son duo, she took it off and put it on backwards. Dariyah noticed a man in his shirt wearing a race suit. "Who's that?"
"Who?" Green Eyes looked down to notice her eyes on his shirt, he chuckled before answering, "That's Jules. He's my Godfather. He's a F1 driver too! He's driving for Ferrari today!"
"Really? Can you please get him to give me an autograph too?" Dariyah held her hands together to plead him. She looked around to find her Dad, but he still hadn't come back from taking the call. Where is he?
"You don't have to beg, honey. We'll get you one. We'll let you take a picture too if you'd like." Hervè raised his brow at the tiny girl who just jumped up in excitement.
"Here, come on. Ferrari's going to drive by here, quick pose for a picture." Hervè picked up his camera before making the two kids stand together. Since Green Eyes was taller he placed his arm around her shoulder, but not touching her. The two raised a peace sign above each other's heads.
But since Dariyah was still short her hand was left standing above his shoulder. Hervè clicked many polaroids of the two before giving her a few photocards of themselves.
The group of three cheered in happiness as Jules Bianchi won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As the crowds cheer grew less, Green Eyes turned to look at Dariyah. "You know I never got your name, Brown Eyes."
"I'm Dariyah." Dariyah spoke as she watched the top 3 celebrate their victory on the podium.
"Nice to meet you, Brown Eyes. I'm Charles." Charles replied as he too watched the celebration shown on the big screen.
"Nice to meet you too, Green Eyes."
