CHAPTER FIFTY.
ABU DHABI.

"Why are you ignoring your appointments with Dr. Fin?" It was the first thing Dariyah was asked as soon as she walked into her workplace. Dariyah jumped in fright at the sudden voice near her ear.

After the "surprise" gift Dariyah's stepdad had sent her the other day, Dariyah became jumpy around people.

"I don't have time for this, Connor. Please leave me alone." Dariyah walked past Layla and walked towards her cubicle.

She glared at the picture frame of her and Charles they had taken together during their Kodaikanal trip.

Now that she thought about it, it felt like ages ago. They met each other on January and now it's almost September. During all this, the couple wasted their time arguing and misunderstanding each other. It was eating her up but now it was her stepdad that was messing her up even more.

She stopped taking her pills after realising it wasn't enough for her to calm down. She decided to rot in pain rather than trying to subside it. She felt like she deserved the pain.

All she's ever done is become a burden or a second choice to everyone. She felt like it was time to just end it once and for all but she wasn't brave enough to do it on her own and instead let her body do it on its own.

She was tired of everything and she sure as hell doesn't have the courage to fight her stepfather lest help out her mom and herself.

She just couldn't and it was eating her alive because it was making her feel like she failed as a daughter and as a human being.

Every breath that she took in was like a sharp knife being inhaled. It was making her look weak and tired.

The memories of that night was haunting her. She could never forget that night and she was just starting to not let that memory affect her everyday life but now that she was reminded of that night again it was all that was running inside her head.

The muffled screams, scratching of nails, whimpers, the feeling of unable to move a muscle and his devious smile. It was only those memories which kept her lost in thoughts. No matter how much ever she tried she couldn't escape them.

"What's going on with you, Hamza? I genuinely am concerned right now. You look like a dead chicken. Your whole body is screaming for help and I know that this isn't about Charles." Layla watched her friend who she sees as a younger sister she never had carefully, growing more and more concerned as Dariyah's eyes let out wide range of emotions.

"Can I take a two weeks break?" Dariyah asked quickly, coming into the realisation that she can't be around people in her current situation.

"Of course, you can. Just tell me what happened." Layla answered with a tone that sounded like she was offended by the question.

"He called me back home for Chennai." Just by the tone of Dariyah was enough for Layla to figure who was she talking about.

"What does he want now?" Layla's eyes darkened. Layla doesn't know everything that happened between Dariyah and her step dad but she had her suspicions from what Dr. Fin had told her.

Layla never asked the therapist to share what goes on in their sessions since it would be invading Dariyah's privacy. This was no different but it was Dr. Fin who shared the particular session regarding her step father.
