AFTER WE GOT ALL EIGHTEEN VAMPIRES OUT OF THE HOUSE. the rest of us stayed in the Cullen's house. I paced around in the living room anxious waiting for my parents arrival
Jasper, Edward, and Emmett sat on the couch, watching me pace across the room for what had to be the hundredth time.
Bella was outside with Rosalie and Renesmee, leaving me trapped in my own head and under three pairs of watchful eyes.
Jasper's golden gaze followed every step I took, calm but cautious. "Darlin', please sit down," he drawled softly. "You're makin' everyone dizzy."
I stopped for only a second before pacing again. "No, you don't understand. I don't want my parents to think I'm making a mistake."
Jasper's expression shifted. His head dropped slightly, and when he looked back up, his voice was quieter but heavy.
"You think... marrying me is a mistake?"
The room went still.
Edward cleared his throat. Emmett stood, muttering something about "needing a snack," and both slipped out, leaving the tension hanging between me and Jasper like thick fog.
I sighed, lowering my gaze. "You know that's not what I meant."
Jasper's tone hardened. "Then what did you mean, Delilah?"
He stood, closing the space between us, his presence pulling at me like gravity.
"You know, I've been through a lot to be with you," he said, voice low but trembling with emotion. "And now that we're finally here, finally engaged, you're afraid of what your parents are gonna say?"
I lifted my chin, meeting his gaze with furrowed brows. "I've been through a lot to be with you too, Jasper. Don't forget, I was hunted down by a vampire who broke my ribs and nearly killed me. Then you left Forks with your family, and when you came back, I was changed. I died, Jasper. I died."
My voice cracked, but I kept going. "And yeah, I'm scared of what they'll say. My parents' opinion still matters to me."
Jasper shook his head slowly, his jaw tightening. "I just want you to understand marryin' you is all I've ever wanted. But what happens if your parents say, 'No, we don't want you to marry him'? Are you gonna listen to that? Are you gonna walk away because they told you to?"
I stood frozen, unable to answer. The silence between us was deafening.
"My parents never wanted me to get married so young," I said at last. "They told me to wait, to think about it. But when you asked me, I said yes without even considering how they'd feel."
Jasper's eyes softened, though his voice stayed firm. "Right. Because for once, you were thinkin' about you. You had the right to say yes. You want to marry me, don't you?"
I looked at him, my voice breaking into a whisper. "That's all I've ever wanted."
He nodded once. "Then tell your parents that."
He turned and walked away, the sound of his boots echoing faintly against the hardwood floor. My chest tightened as I watched him go I hated when he was upset with me.
I knew I had to fix this. Somehow.
Even if part of me knew my parents would be angry, I had to tell them the truth that I was engaged to the love of my life.
And as if on cue, the doorbell rang.
