When I reached there I heard voices coming out of his office. I stood in front of the door to find it slightly ajar. Rekha and Alan were arguing about something. He had positioned a gun on her head.

"Don't provoke me bitch," he was saying to her.

"You can't touch a strand of my hair, my lovely husband,"

He pulled his gun away. "Get out of my house," he shouted.

"It's my house too you know,"

"Whores don't have houses. They have different beds," he spat.

"You don't get to say that when you have one of your whores...."

A loud sound echoed through the room. At first, I didn't believe it. Alan was never a man of violence especially not with women but when she placed her hand on her cheek and glared at him I had to believe that he had slapped her. I placed a hand covering my mouth. I was quick to lean to the wall hiding from them.

"How dare you," she screamed.

"Provoke me and see how I turn your body into pieces,"

I could imagine him placing his gun back at her head again.

"You have turned into a monster. She has succeeded in her mission," she said.

Before they could see me I walked from there. I didn't bother to get to my room instead I went to the kitchen. No one would think I would be there so I could be at peace for a while. Maids weren't anywhere. I took a water bottle out of the fridge to find Matteo there. He was sitting on a tool unaware of my presence. I took an ice bag and handed it to him.

He looked at it for a while and took it.

"Is it hurting? do you want meds?" I asked.

He shook his head.

"I already took it,"

"Why did he hit you?"

He looked anywhere but me. He was fighting whether to tell me or not.

"I promise not to mention it to him," I assured him.

He looked at me and then at the kitchen door.

"Because I got you back here," he said.

I gritted my teeth in anger. He ruined his face just for that?

"I saw them at the office. They were arguing,"

He gave a slight nod.

"Is she going to stay?"

"Don't worry she won't,"

"I don't care,"

There was silence for some time. I was about to get up to leave when I heard him say,

"He was asking why you were crying," he whispered now looking at me.

I got up deciding not to say anything.

"You should know that boss hasn't been himself lately. He doesn't always have his mind in the same place as his body. It happens mostly when Patrizia is there. He completely shuts her off. Her existence, her voice. Maybe that's why he didn't hear a word she said yesterday,"

"Are you still trying to defend him when he caused you pain?"

"I am not," he said now getting up. "It has happened many times in the past. He just...." he shrugged. "acts as if she isn't there....like she is a ghost. I had not once heard him talk to her after he was back as our boss," he said.

"Why doesn't she live here?" I questioned. "Everyone knows they are married right?"

"Yes, they do but they don't know that she doesn't live here. Boss has made an arrangement that no one knows about it," he said.
