Alexander's P.O.V
I was following the trail of a wanted criminal when I heard a blast. I decided not to interfere. Catching the convict was more crucial. I had been on this man's trail for years. The guy used a smoke bomb to escape when the roof door opened. I barely managed to mark the guy. I was annoyed. I had failed my mission because of other people. I slowly turned around to see who had dared to disturb me. I sighed when I recognized Cain. He was the president of the country. I wanted to meet him one day, but not like this. I could smell the poison the enemy had used.
Cain wasn't doing so well. I could feel his pain. Adriel's face flashed into my mind. He had started to ask me about his father. I wondered how Adriel would react if his father perished. The guy who was with Cain pleaded with me to help his boss. I decided to help Cain when I realized I could die with him as his mate. I lost my mind when Cain bit my neck. I walked straight into the bathroom when I reached my office. Cain had marked me once before. My uncle used a spell to conceal it then. The mark had reappeared. It was no use hiding it now. No one would know who had marked me anyway.
I was washing my face when Adriel walked into my office. He knocked on the bathroom door and said, "My teacher has sent you a letter, papa." Adriel had enrolled in a famous elementary school. Things weren't going so great at the moment for him. His teacher had told me she could hardly understand Adriel. The boy had a thick French accent. I opened the door and grabbed the letter. The boy giggled when I uttered, "Stupid people!" I pinched Adriel's cheek and asked, "Mind telling me why your teacher wants to see me?"
Adriel sighed and replied, "Mrs. Witt said I never listen to her. She asked me to talk more clearly in class, but I couldn't. It's not my fault she can't understand German or French." I had to put the people at Adriel's school straight once and for all. Adriel was right. The teacher should try to accommodate him and not the other way around. My parents were in the kitchen when I returned home with Adriel. I helped the boy wash up and then joined my parents. My father smiled when Adriel hugged him. He kissed the boy's forehead and asked, "How was your day, Adriel?" My mother laughed when Adriel replied in German. The boy had learned the languages at school and from his nannies.
I sighed and uttered, "This is why you get in trouble at school. Try to reply in English." My mother ruffled Adriel's hair and said, "Leave the boy alone. He is the cutest child in the world." It was true. Adriel was pretty cute. He didn't look like any of us. People always asked me who he took after. It wasn't Cain, that's for sure. I helped Adriel with school stuff after dinner. The boy fell asleep early that night. I put Adriel to bed and took a shower. I was admiring the full moon when my uncle showed up. He gazed at the sky and stated, "I saw what happened today. Why did you let Malcolm flee? Be careful next time."
I growled and uttered, "Are you implying that I should have let my mate die?" My uncle shook his head and said, "I didn't mean it like that. We are so close to our goal, Alex. We can't lose focus now." I rubbed my face and said, "I know what I'm doing, uncle. I have marked Malcolm. We will catch him this time. Don't worry." My uncle nodded and disappeared. He was suffocating me with his nagging. We had managed to kill many of his enemies. The mastermind was still roaming free. Malcolm could hopefully shed some light on his whereabouts. The next few days went by without a hitch. I was closely monitoring Malcolm.
I was at a conference when my assistant said, "We have received a complaint from the Oval Office, sir. Here is the file." I realized what was going on when I read the names of the assailants. It was wise of Cain to seek help. I ordered my men to gather information on Cain's foes. We arrived at the Oval Office on time. I smirked when people began fleeing. We weren't finished with the attackers yet, but the president didn't need to know this. I was startled when Cain said, "Tell me why I can't get images of you and the little boy out of my head?" I needed to flee the scene before Cain could recognize me. The fact that we were so close to our goal was affecting him. He was slowly regaining his memories.
I couldn't get the incident out of my head. I wasn't surprised when the president requested to meet me. I went to Cain's office with a heavy heart. Cain was staring out of the window when I arrived. The man still looked gorgeous. Cain quickly turned to greet me. He joined me at the conference table and said, "Sorry. I got distracted by all the noises outside. They are planting new flowers." I couldn't tell Cain I once had the same job. I nodded and asked, "Can you tell me why you summoned me here, sir? I have to be somewhere after this." Cain smiled and replied, "Of course. I'm looking for someone. I wondered if you could help me find him." Cain handed me a sketch of a child. I recognized my child immediately. I frowned and asked, "Why are you looking for this child?"
Cain sighed and replied, "This child has been haunting my dreams. I can't sleep because of him. I want to know if this boy is real or not, that's all." There was no use in lying. I glared at Cain and said, "This boy is my child. You better stay away from him before I kill you." Cain grinned and asked, "Really? Can I meet him?" I grabbed Cain's collar and yelled, "Watch it!" Cain didn't have bad intentions, but I didn't care. My child's safety came first. It was time for my meeting with Adriel's teacher, so I left. The school was already out.
I spotted my child immediately. I didn't want Adriel to bother anyone while I was in the office. I had brought some snacks and a comic book to keep Adriel busy. The boy was a social butterfly, and not everyone liked company. I grabbed Adriel's hand and walked to the headmaster's office. I cleaned Adriel's hands with wet wipes and gave him the snacks and the book. Adriel nodded when I said, "Don't talk to anyone. I'll be out in a few minutes."
The headmaster smiled when I walked into his office. He instantly started giving me instructions on how to teach my child English. I listened intently to the man. I sighed when the teacher uttered, "It's sad that the other kids don't understand, Adriel." I had heard enough. I glared at the teacher and declared, "My child is trilingual. I'm proud of him. Give Adriel some time. He will soon realize which language is beneficial to him here. It's not like Adriel doesn't participate in class, so don't summon me again." I could see that the headmaster was embarrassed. It was getting late. I couldn't stay any longer due to work. I bid the headmaster farewell and went to look for my son.
Adriel was chatting with a little boy when I went to get him. A woman was with the boy. I packed Adriel's stuff and asked, "Did you eat everything?" Adriel giggled and replied, "Yes, papa. Ethan helped me finish the strawberries. They were a little sour." I fixed Adriel's clothes and said, "Tell your grandmother when we get home. Now, let's go." I was startled when the woman uttered, "Is that you, Alexander?" I turned to face the woman. "What the hell!" I thought when I realized Adriel looked exactly like his grandmother. I left when my phone began ringing. I never wanted to see Cain's mother again. That woman had ruined my life.
Thanks for reading, everyone. Enjoy the weekend.
