Chapter 10. Doubts

Alexander's P.O.V

Cain was waiting for me in the parking lot. He kissed my cheek when I stepped into his car. I chuckled and said, "You should stop treating me like your other half, Cain." Cain growled and asked, "Why should I? I already know you are my mate." I shook my head and mumbled, "Stubborn mule." Cain handed me a bag full of snacks and uttered, "You are working today, right? Enjoy them with the workers. I wished Cain would find out the truth soon.

I sighed while thinking about my future. I was startled when I received a text. My car was ready. I just had to pick it up. I grabbed Cain's hand and uttered, "Can you drop me off at the car repair shop, Cain? They have already fixed my car." Cain sighed and said, "Oh, what a bummer. I loved being with you." I pinched Cain's cheek and replied, "You can visit me whenever you want. Just don't fall asleep this time." Cain groaned and declared, "You are not letting me forget it, huh?" I laughed and answered, "No, never."

Cain dropped me off at the garage. I paid the bill and drove home. I huffed when I saw Arthur. He was standing in the driveway. I parked my car, grabbed my stuff, and yelled, "Go home, Arthur. I don't want to talk to you!" Arthur stood in my path and said, "No. I want to know if you're telling anyone about what you saw today." I pushed Arthur aside and declared, "I'm not a tattle-tale like you, Arthur. Now get out of my way." Arthur clenched his fists and yelled, "You won't live to see the day if you share my secret with anyone!"

"What an insolent bastard," I thought. I couldn't believe Arthur. He had ruined my life with his lies and deceit. And he was threatening me now? I growled and yelled, "Why should I be afraid of you?" My mother opened the door and asked, "What's going on?" Arthur ran when he heard my mom. My mother grabbed my stuff and asked, "Who were you talking to?" I kissed my mother's cheek and replied, "No one important, mom." Warning signs were going off in my mind. I needed to get ready for work, so I ignored them.

I grabbed the snacks before leaving. Mr. Conley had asked us to trim his hedges. The man lived on a large estate. He tried to do things by himself. He called for help only when he failed. I sighed when I saw the uneven fences. We had our work cut out for us. It took us hours to fix the garden. It was dark, and the workers had already gone home. I stayed behind to pack. I groaned when I noticed a brush cutter behind the bushes. I quickly went to pick it up. Someone kicked me before I knew it. I flew to the ground.

I landed on my shoulder and winced in pain. Someone jumped on me before I could catch my breath. I could recognize Dimitri instantly. "This is what you get for ignoring warning signs," I thought. Dimitri grabbed my neck and said, "I heard you grew a spine, Alex. Isn't it too late for that? Look at the things Arthur did to you. You did nothing then, so why now?" I tried to break free, but my shoulder was killing me. I contemplated using my powers. I couldn't just kill the vampire. That was asking for trouble. His father was the head of the clan. Dimitri licked my cheek and uttered, "It's such a waste I have to kill you. You are my type. Should I have my way with you first?"

I kicked Dimitri and whispered, "I will castrate you like a dog." Dimitri bared his teeth and laughed. The guy whistled when my hands started glowing. Dimitri kissed my cheek and asked, "Are you trying to show me the light?" I smirked and replied, "Yeah. That's what I'm trying to do. Maybe you will change your ways." Dimitri screamed in pain before I could attack him. I gazed at the claws sticking out of his stomach. Cain pulled me from under Dimitri and asked, "Are you alright?" I nodded and replied, "Yes. What are you doing here anyway?" Dimitri's wounds had healed. He took a stand to attack us. Cain kicked the vampire and said, "I went to your home. Your father told me you were working late. I came to check on you, and good thing I did."

I watched Cain beat Dimitri to a pulp. Cain grabbed Dimitri's collar and said, "Tell your father, my brother, and I will visit the clan tomorrow. It's about time we set you people straight." Dimitri gazed at me, then ran away. Cain grabbed my arm and asked, "Are you hurt anywhere?" I nodded and pointed at my shoulder. Cain dragged me to his car. He buckled me in and said, "I'm taking you to the hospital." I yelled, "No!" and tried to escape. Cain pushed me back into my seat and said, "I'm not in the mood to argue, Alex. Mind telling me why Dimitri tried to kill you." I could sense how angry Cain was. Telling the truth was the best option. I rubbed my forehead and replied, "I caught Arthur and Dimitri having sex at school. Arthur is afraid that I'll tell everyone about it. He sent Dimitry to silence me."

Cain growled and yelled, "How dare he!" I kissed Cain's temple to calm him down. Cain took a deep breath and said, "I'll get rid of Arthur and all his lovers. I promise." I grabbed Cain's face and said, "Don't turn into a criminal because of me. It's not worth it, Cain." Cain gazed into my eyes and declared, "You are my everything, Alex. I can't stand people harming you." I shook my shoulder and stated, "Look. My shoulder is alright now, so let's not go to the hospital." Cain examined my shoulder and said, "Okay. I'll drive you home then." I didn't protest. One of the workers would pick up the truck in the morning.

Cain and I stopped at a diner on our way home. I avoided my parents when we arrived. Cain followed me upstairs. He asked if he could freshen up as well. I got him some clean clothes. I grabbed some drinks while Cain was in the shower. I was startled when my father asked, "Is everything alright, Alex?" I smiled and replied, "For now, yes." Dimitri had, fortunately, not seen me use my powers. I doubt he knew what was going on. Cain was sitting on my bed when I returned. The guy looked good in my clothes. I handed Cain a drink and asked, "Have you notified your brother that you are here?"

Cain nodded and said, "Something has been bothering me for a while now." I joined Cain on the bed and uttered, "What would you like to know?" Cain threw his arm around me and stated, "I would like to know why you haven't exposed Arthur yet and if Maverick and you truly used to roughhouse together. I have a feeling he doesn't like you." I laced my fingers through Cain's and replied, "People won't believe me if I tell the truth about Arthur. They will think I'm bitter because of all the rejections I faced and that I'm out for revenge. Arthur made sure I couldn't speak up for myself. And yes. I used to play with Maverick while my father worked in the garden. I'm sure he didn't mean any harm."

Cain kissed my hand and uttered, "I'll get you out of this mess." I wondered what Cain was planning. Cain took the drink from my hand and put it on the nightstand. He kissed me softly and stated, "Let's go to bed." The guy was acting like it was his house. I groaned when Cain pushed me on the bed. Cain climbed on top of me and kissed me passionately. I could feel how hard he was. I grabbed Cain's hand when he stuck it under my shirt. I kissed Cain's forehead and said, "Let's wait till you turn eighteen to be sure." Cain bit my ear and replied, "As you wish." I sighed in relief. I didn't want Cain to blame me for taking his virginity later. I thought I was safe, but Cain suddenly declared, "I love you, Alex." Cain's wolf was crazy. How could he profess his love so soon? "I'm going to die by his hands, aren't I?" I thought.
