Alex's P.O.V.
I was disappointed in my uncle. I couldn't comprehend how he could have sacrificed us for his gain. "He must have hated me," I thought. There were other methods he could have used to solve his problems. I felt lethargic after returning from the past. Cain tried to cheer me up. I couldn't even think straight, so I ignored him. My parents got worried about me. The kids also sensed that something was wrong. I realized I was punishing myself and my family when I saw how sad my mother had become.
I vowed to devise a revenge plan that would benefit us all. The first thing I needed to do was find my uncle. The man had disappeared again. I couldn't even pick up his trace. I decided to lure him in. I was in my office when Cain came to see me. Cain placed a banana slush on my desk and said, "Drink it. It will do you good." The drink looked delicious. I took a sip and uttered, "Thank you, Cain. How are things on your end?" I had asked Cain to search for my uncle. Cain sighed and replied, "We couldn't find Mitchell either. What's the next step?" I smirked and stated, "There is something Mitchell loves more than his wretched self. Do you know what it is?"
Cain contemplated and answered, "It must be his husband and kids, but aren't they dead?" I cupped Cain's face and kissed him passionately. Cain looked at me as if I had lost my mind. I patted Cain's cheek and declared, "You are right, my mate, but their graves are still here. Mitchell performs a ritual at the location every year. His family's souls are not at peace. The death anniversary of my uncle's loved ones is next month. Let's make the best of it." Cain hummed and uttered, "I'll get my men ready."
Cain had gathered people who would support him through thick and thin. I had investigated these people. They were legit. I could see the whole thing play out in my head. I was startled when Cain kissed my temple. Cain hugged me and said, "Don't rejoice yet, Alex. Mitchell is as slippery as an eel." I leaned into Cain's chest and replied, "I know. That's why I will be making sure he doesn't escape. What are you doing after this?" Cain gazed at his watch and said, "I have a meeting at the White House. I'll see you tonight." Cain kissed my cheek and disappeared.
I got busy with work after Cain left. I went home after discussing matters with my assistant. My parents were watching television in the living room with the kids. I greeted everyone and asked, "What's for dinner tonight, guys?" Adriel giggled and yelled, "Grandma said we're having burgers and fries tonight." I wasn't in the mood for junk food. I could sense my mother was tired. I messaged my mother's shoulders and said, "It's okay, Mom. I'll ask Cain to bring food home. You can relax." I quickly mind-linked Cain to buy food. My mother smiled and uttered, "Thank you, son. I had to help your father in the garden today. Time flew by before we knew it. I couldn't start cooking on time."
I sighed and stated, "This is why I wanted to hire a chef." My mother gasped and declared, "I would have nothing to do in this house if you had done that, Alex. Let me give my grandchildren something to remember me by." My father chuckled and said, "You get your stubbornness from your mother, son. Would you like some strawberries? We harvested them today." I grabbed a bunch of strawberries and sat on the sofa. The boys screamed when Cain came on the television. He had signed a treaty with a country. My mind wandered to my uncle. It will be easy to trick my uncle, but what about his killer? I thought. I frowned when I felt tiny hands on my right leg.
I gasped and uttered, "When did Eva start crawling?" I put the strawberries away and picked up my daughter. Ethan stroked Eva's head and said, "Eva is old enough to crawl, Papa." My eyes widened in surprise when I realized seven months had passed since Eva's birth. Eva reached out to grab a strawberry. I kissed my daughter's cheek and uttered, "It will ruin your appetite, darling." Eva began crying. The nanny ran out of the kitchen to check on her. I sighed and stated, "It's alright. I'll feed her soon." Eva stopped crying when Cain arrived.
Cain handed the bags of food to the nanny. He kissed my cheek and grabbed Eva. I groaned when Eva quieted down instantly. I wondered why Eva loved Cain more. I calmed myself down by saying, "I have other things to worry about." The weather was nice, so we had dinner on the patio. I put the kids to bed while Cain was in an online meeting. I decided not to wait for Cain. I took a shower and went to bed. I groaned when Cain kissed my cheek and said, "I'm sorry, Alex. The meeting took longer than expected."
I kissed Cain softly and asked, "What time is it?" Cain pulled me closer and said, "It's one a.m. I shouldn't have bothered you." I chuckled and replied, "Everything is fine. Don't worry." I fell asleep in Cain's arms. Adriel's class had an excursion to the zoo. The teacher had asked me to accompany them. I agreed because I wanted to protect my son. I also received a letter from Ethan's teacher. The school needed money for renovations. Cain and I donated ten thousand dollars privately. A month flew by with me juggling work and private matters.
It was soon time for my uncle's family's death anniversary. Cain and I masked our presence and traveled to the location. It was ten a.m., and my uncle hadn't shown up yet. Cain scanned our surroundings and asked, "Do you think he sensed us?" I smirked and replied, "Not even the moon goddess would know we are here." I had used layers and layers of spells to conceal us. My uncle showed up in the afternoon with flowers and incense. The man didn't look so good. Cain gazed at my uncle and said, "Mitchell's energy has almost depleted. We have to act quickly."
I knew what was bothering my uncle. I grabbed Cain's hand and said, "This is what happens when you worship the wrong mate, Cain. Now I understand why Mitchell has been disappearing. He has been taking breaks to replenish his energy." I motioned my men to surround Mitchell. Cain's army was on standby. I couldn't let a chance like this slip by. Who knew when my uncle would appear again? We watched my uncle perform rituals to calm his family's souls. My uncle fell to his knees when nothing seemed to help. I walked up to my uncle and uttered, "You reap what you sow, my dear uncle."
My uncle conjured his sword and pierced through my chest. I gazed at my wound and laughed. My uncle's eyes widened in surprise when I grabbed his weapon. He took a step back when I wiped the blood off the sword. I sighed while looking at the magnificent blade and said, "You should have given up this sword years ago, Mitchell. It doesn't suit cowards like you." Mitchell growled and yelled, "What the heck is wrong with you, Alexander? I'm your uncle!" I cut through my uncle's chest with his weapon. My uncle gazed at the wound and asked, "Why are you acting like this? Did my murderer bribe you?" I laughed and asked, "Did you forget you just stabbed me? And are you talking about the one who flees whenever he sees me, uncle?"
Mitchell groaned when his wound didn't heal. He grabbed my arm and said, "Stop this before you make a grave mistake, Alex. You can imagine what the consequences of killing a spirit are." Cain kicked my uncle and stated, "Funny you should say that because you are the biggest screw-up in the world." My uncle looked at Cain in fear. He started trembling uncontrollably. Cain growled when my uncle said, "Please, go away. I don't want you all to die here tonight. Astro Blane will be here any moment now." I smirked and said, "Let him come. We are also here for him. You two will die together today." I chuckled when my uncle clutched his hair and yelled, "No! That was never my wish!"
