Cain's P.O.V.
I hadn't seen Ethan for a few days. I thought that the boy had gone home. Imagine my surprise when I saw him playing in the living room after a hard day at work. My parents were in a heated discussion in the kitchen. My mother looked stressed. I knew my parents wouldn't tell me what was going on. So I decided to observe them. I frowned when my mother said, "I can't believe how much the child looks like me. He has my eyes, ears, nose, and dimples." My father noticed me first. He grabbed my mother's arm and whispered, "Watch it. Cain's home." I sighed and asked, "Why are you so upset, mother?"
My mother quickly composed herself and replied, "It's nothing, Cain. How was your day?" I chuckled and answered, "It was better than yours. I see." My mother didn't dare to remark. Ethan ran into the kitchen with a coloring book. He giggled and stated, "Is this the book Adriel was talking about, Grandma?" Theon perked up his ears. I wondered what had gotten him so excited. I grabbed the coloring book and asked, "Who's Adriel, little Ethan?" Ethan grinned and answered, "It's the boy I met at my new school today, uncle. He's an alpha, but he's so nice."
I glared at my father and asked, "What is he talking about, Dad? I hope you guys are not planning on moving in with me, and when is Ethan going to leave? I don't want people to think he is my child." My mother grabbed Ethan's hand and led him out of the kitchen. My father scowled and uttered, "Couldn't you wait till the boy was gone?" I shrugged and replied, "Ethan is not my responsibility, Dad. You didn't even ask for my permission before bringing him here." My father growled and yelled, "You have become so bitter and unruly, Cain!" I smirked and uttered, "I wonder who made me like this." My father was at a loss for words.
He shook his head and said, "Aidan and his husband are planning to travel for another year. Ethan will be staying with us for the time being." I laughed and declared, "Such reliable parents! What about his biological grandparents, Dad? Can't they look after him?" My father sighed and replied, "They kicked Aidan out of the house when you rejected him. We had no other choice than to adopt the boy." I had heard enough. I huffed and said, "Don't blame me for that disaster. I told Aidan countless times I wasn't interested in him." My father left when my mother called out to him. What my parents didn't know was that I was keeping an eye on them through surveillance cameras.
I went to the control room and requested to look at the kitchen footage. I could fortunately hear what my parents were discussing. I was startled when my mother told my father about Alex and his child. I could see from her reaction that she was frightened. The blood drained from my face when my mother said, "I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the boy. Who knew Alex was pregnant when he left? I'm afraid to know what will happen when the truth comes out." My father hugged my mother and stated, "It's alright. The spell is intact. We still have time to convince Cain." My parents were scheming something, and I needed to find out what. "In what way was the head enforcer involved with my family?" I thought. It was best to question the man himself.
I called Flynn and ordered him to arrange a meeting for me with Alexander. I went to bed early that night. My mother looked like a zombie in the morning. It was evident that something was eating her alive. I sighed when she ruined Ethan's uniform. My father shook my mother and yelled, "Snap out of it. You are making things worse!" I had an important meeting to attend. I went to my office early to avoid the drama. Alexander wasn't available that day. I had to wait till Friday to see him. I got worried when Alexander didn't show up. His assistant told Flynn that Alexander had a family emergency. I had a feeling Alexander was lying. I went to his office myself. I couldn't do a lot of things as the President. So I used a spell to take me there. The lobby was empty. It was already late. I decided to barge into Alexander's office. I could hear a child cough when I opened the door.
Alexander growled and yelled, "How dare you disrespect my workplace?" I grinned when I recognized the child in Alexander's arms. Alexander huffed and uttered, "Leave. Make another appointment with my assistant." I couldn't take my eyes off the child. I could see why my mother was terrified. The child began coughing uncontrollably. Theon growled and uttered, "Take him." I couldn't deny the pull. I smiled and asked Alexander, "Can I hold him first?" Alexander didn't protest. He carefully put the boy in my arms. The boy healed instantly. He wiggled out of my arms and shouted, "Thank you, sir!" Alexander grabbed the boy's arm and stated, "Listen carefully, Adriel. I will punish you if you eat blueberries again." I chuckled and asked, "Are you allergic to blueberries, Adriel?" The little boy nodded and replied, "Yes, sir, but they are delicious. I can't stay away from them." Alexander growled and yelled, "It's the second time this month. Go away before I lose my mind!" Adriel laughed while running away.
I turned to face Alexander and uttered, "I found my treasure. He's my child, isn't he?" Alexander ignored my question and asked, "What can I do for you, Mr. President?" Theon was urging me to take the next step. I chuckled and replied, "Oh. I see. You are not going to answer my question. Don't worry. I'll find out myself. I came to ask you on a date. Would you allow me to woo you, Alexander Haile?" Alexander laughed and replied, "You must be crazy. I don't have time to breathe, let alone go on a date. I bet it's the same for you." I cupped Alexander's face and said, "You have been on my mind since I saw you. We have such a deep connection. I want to know why. So please, spend some time with me."
Alexander grabbed my hand and uttered, "Okay, but don't expect me to come alone. I will choose the location myself. I will call you tomorrow. Now leave." I was over the moon with joy. Alexander called me the next day. He told me to meet him in a secluded place on Saturday. I was looking forward to my date. My mother got sick on Friday. It was like she knew I was going on a date. My father took my mother to a private hospital when her health worsened. My mother had to stay at the hospital for checkups. I decided to visit her before leaving for my date. I was surprised to see Aidan in my mother's room. "That was fast. Wasn't he in Brazil?" I thought.
Aidan smiled and said, "Welcome, Cain. I'm so glad to see you. I heard you met Alexander." I frowned and asked, "How much do you know?" Aidan put his hand on my shoulder to calm me down. I suddenly started forgetting about Alexander. I shook my head and uttered, "No. What's happening?" I pushed Aidan and uttered, "Don't touch me." My mother smiled and stated, "It's alright, son. He means well." There was an odd smell in the room. I couldn't take it anymore, so I left. I fell on my knees before I reached the exit. I couldn't remember Adriel's and Alexander's face anymore. It felt it had happened before. I clutched my hair and yelled, "Why?"
Someone suddenly pulled me into his arms and said, "It's alright, Cain. I'm here. They can't harm you anymore." I hugged Alexander tightly when I recognized his scent. It felt like I had found what I had lost. Alexander used a spell to move us to a beach. The cool breeze calmed my mind. I gazed at the waves and thought, "I will kill Aidan if he has anything to do with my miserable state."
Hi guys, have a great weekend.
