Alex's P.O.V

I could see the future. I knew that Ethan was no threat to us. I had been working nonstop and needed a break. My mortal enemy had slipped through my fingers once again. I was now sure that he was someone who could predict the future. I tried not to let it affect me. I wanted to take Adriel shopping. The boy had grown a lot in the last few months. I wrapped up my work by noon and left the office. I was surprised to see Cain at the house. He was discussing matters with my parents in the living room.

I kissed Cain's cheek and asked, "What are you doing here?" Cain smiled and replied, "I came to talk to Ivan and Anna about Ethan. I can't afford any scandals right now. It would be best if Ethan stayed here during my term in office." I looked at my parents and asked, "And you guys agree with this?" My mother sighed while looking at Ethan. The boy was happily playing with Adriel on the patio. My father grabbed my mother's hand and uttered, "It will be alright, Anna. No one will take him away from us. Don't be afraid to get attached to him."

My mother nodded and said, "Okay. Ethan can stay with us. He is too cute and well-behaved to ignore." Cain grinned and declared, "I'm glad to hear that, Anna. I will adopt Ethan after my term is over. Don't hesitate to tell me if you need anything." I hadn't seen Cain this excited in a long time. I threw my arm around Cain and asked, "Are you relieved?" Cain chuckled and replied, "Yeah. I created a bond with the boy without thinking about the consequences. I'm so glad that he can stay here. I don't know what I would do if your parents didn't agree to look after him."

I stroked Cain's head and said, "Hey, Ethan's my child now too. My parents will always protect him." I was startled when Ethan tapped on my back. I smiled at the boy and asked, "Do you need something, Ethan?" The little boy grinned and replied, "I'm hungry, papa." My mother gasped and uttered, "I forgot to give the kids a snack. I'll be right back." I ruffled Ethan's hair and said, "Go, fetch your brother. It's time to eat." Ethan ran towards the patio. My father gazed at us and stated, "I'm going to help your mother." He knew Cain and I had matters to discuss.

Cain looked at his watch and said, "It's time for me to leave. Can we talk later? I promise to come on time." I sighed and uttered, "Alright. See you later." The kids took a nap after eating. I took them to a mall with my mother. Adriel had always been picky about his clothes. It took us some time to find him the right size pants. I was exhausted by the time we returned home. I took a shower after having dinner with my parents and the kids. It was already nine p.m., and Cain hadn't shown up yet. I was planning to sleep early that night. That wouldn't be possible now. I could look for Cain, but I was too lazy. I grabbed a bottle of wine and went to the balcony.

I was angry and needed to let off some steam. Memories of my teenage years started flashing through my mind. Cain was never on time then, as well. I had suffered so much because of him in the past. I grabbed another bottle of wine and finished in one go. I growled when Cain hugged me from behind. Cain kissed my neck and uttered, "Sorry for being late. I had to attend an urgent meeting." I could feel the heat coming from Cain. I was getting aroused. I didn't need that at the moment. I pushed Cain away and asked, "Are you ready for your trip?" Cain cupped my face and kissed me passionately. He gazed into my eyes and uttered, "Yes. I'll be leaving in the morning."

I grabbed another bottle of wine and said, "You never have time for me, Cain." Cain frowned and asked, "What brought this on? And stop drinking. I think you have had enough." Cain tried to get rid of the wine. I glared at him and growled, "Stop it! I'm not a child. This much can't get me drunk." Cain got worried. He hugged me and said, "Tell me what's wrong. I can sense how angry you are." I assessed my behavior. Cain was right. I was being childish. I sighed and replied, "I couldn't help but reminisce when I was alone. Things aren't going well for me at the moment." Cain led me to the bed and uttered, "Come sit. Tell me everything. Maybe I can help."

I sat on the bed and replied, "The guy who slaughtered my uncle Mitchell's family disappeared again. Whenever I think I caught him, he flees. I had been following him personally, so I was exhausted. I wonder how long we will have to live apart like this. It's strenuous for us and the kids. We would at least have a chance to see each other if we lived together." Cain pulled me into his arms and said, "You don't have to do this alone, Alex. I'll help you find him. Don't worry." I suddenly felt good. It was the power of the mate bond, I guess. Cain chuckled when I closed my eyes. He laid me down on the bed and went to shower. I woke up when Cain climbed into bed. I yawned and asked Cain, "What time is it?" Cain grabbed his watch and replied, "It's one a.m. I had to run to my office to handle a matter." I frowned and uttered, "Sleep. It will be time for your flight before you know it."

Cain had already left when I woke up in the morning. The boys were watching television in the living room when I went downstairs. They looked up when they sensed me. I greeted the kids and went to the kitchen. My mother was busy making pancakes. The boys squealed suddenly and yelled, "Look, it's Daddy!" It seemed like Cain had arrived in Los Angeles. Adriel and Ethan listened intently to the reporter. I called the boys to have breakfast. I went to work after helping my mother with groceries. A few supernatural creatures had fought at a bar the night before. One of them lost his life in the process. The incident seemed suspicious. I decided to investigate it myself. I was busy analyzing the scene and didn't realize people were staring at me.

I groaned when a man said, "Well if it isn't Thousand." "That damn nickname," I thought. I turned around to face the man. I smirked when I recognized Clifford. Clifford was wearing a police uniform. I chuckled and stated, "It looks like your wish came true, Clifford." Clifford huffed and yelled, "Don't mock me, Alex. You know I always wanted to be a doctor!" I laughed and uttered, "We still have a lot of ground to cover. Please leave the area for now." Clifford left when he saw my men with their equipment. The scene was too clean for my liking. There was not even a cigarette butt in sight.

I was about to leave when someone screamed, "Watch out!" A bullet pierced through my left arm. I groaned while looking at the wound. A guy was holding Clifford hostage. I wondered why he had shot me. My wound had healed, but people didn't need to know that. I scowled when the guy yelled, "What are you doing here, you scum? No one has ever helped us, so why are you acting like you care?" I had heard enough. I was about to attack the guy when I noticed a reporter. The guy was live-streaming the incident. "What a shitty day," I thought to myself when I realized Cain might be watching the show.
