Cain's P.O.V

I was missing Alex like crazy. My mother stopped me every time I tried to leave the house. She had even asked elder Ezra to keep an eye on me. I had never liked the man. Theon could sense something was up. I told my brother about my dilemma. Maverick told me to stop acting like a child. I realized I couldn't count on him. I managed to slip out of the house while everyone was asleep. I lost my mind when I saw the dark circles under Alex's eyes. I felt guilty when I remembered I couldn't stay with my mate.

The images that Alex had shown me were frightening. I was ready to face our future together. I was confident that nothing could separate us. I was a fool. I had been waiting to see Alex the whole night. I was out looking for him when Aidan approached me. I could see the disappointment on Alex's face when he saw me talking to Aidan. He had warned me about the guy. I hardly saw Aidan, so I didn't heed the warning. Something came over me when Elder Ezra asked me to close my eyes. It was like I was in a different zone. I was kneeling in front of Aidan when I recovered. Theon kept saying that Aidan wasn't supposed to be our mate. Alex was our heart and soul.

I pushed Aidan when he tried to kiss me. Theon was confused. He was baring his fangs. I growled when I realized Alex was gone. Everyone was joking about Alex. I couldn't take the laughter anymore. I yelled, "Shut up! I dare you to ridicule Alex again!" Aidan grabbed my hand when I tried to leave. I scowled at him and said, "I don't know what happened. You are not my mate." Elder Ezra grabbed my shoulder and uttered, "What are you talking about, Cain? You have already asked Aidan to marry you." I was about to retort when my father yelled, "Enjoy the party, everyone!"

Loud music instantly started blasting through the speakers. I fled the scene before my parents could stop me. I drove straight to Alex's house. I groaned in pain when Aidan's wolf called out to me. I didn't even know he was a werewolf. There was a barrier around Alex's house. I couldn't breach it no matter how hard I tried. I tried calling Alex, but his phone was off. I didn't feel like going home, so I went to the treehouse. It was full of memories of Alex and me together. I couldn't understand how I had screwed up. I fell asleep while thinking about Alex.

I woke up startled when Maverick shook me. He grabbed my collar and asked, "Are you trying to ruin our family's reputation?" I huffed and answered, "I have never cared about it anyway. Have you forgotten how I was called, the runt of the litter?" Maverick threw me on the floor and yelled, "I have had enough of your shenanigans! You better go home and apologize to your mate!" I chuckled and declared, "Aidan is nothing to me. My wolf could never be wrong, and when I find out mom is behind this all, then all hell will break loose." Maverick slapped me and said, "I can't believe you are doubting our mother because of some whore."

I kicked Maverick and yelled, "Don't call him that! I'm the only one he ever slept with!" Maverick was about to hit me back when my father appeared. My father forced us into submission and stated, "We can't change what happened, Cain. We are happy with Aidan. There is no doubt he's your mate." I wondered why my family was forcing me to accept Aidan. I visited Alex's house once again. The barrier was still up, so I went home. I couldn't sleep a wink. Imagine my surprise when Aidan knocked on my door in the afternoon. I frowned and asked, "What are you doing here?" Aidan smiled sheepishly and replied, "Your mother invited me. She wants to see you in the garden." Alex's face flashed in my mind. I huffed and said before closing the door, "Don't bother me again."

My father summoned me to his office late in the night. He sighed and asked, "How long are you planning to keep this up? Maverick already told me about how the mark on Alex's neck disappeared. Wake up and build a bond with Aidan." I growled and uttered, "That was supposed to be between Maverick and me. I won't take steps before talking to Alex. You can do whatever you want. I don't care." My father rubbed his face and asked, "Why are you so hung up on Alex? He is not your mate. The mark would have otherwise never faded." My father had a valid point. I'm sure Alex knew what happened. He would explain things to me once I asked him.
