Cain's P.O.V

The first thing I did when I got to work was call my father. The man was still in bed. My office's phones were ringing off the hook. The news channels wanted to know how much debt my family had. I was too busy to deal with that nonsense. My father called me back in the afternoon. He assured me he wasn't behind the information leakage. I didn't trust the man. I asked one of my trusted men to look into the matter. I tried to concentrate on my work after that. I groaned when Flynn notified me about my schedule change.

I looked forward to seeing the Indian prime minister, but he would be a day late. I had a meeting with military officials next. It took me most of the day to discuss things. I visited the boys after the meeting finished. Ethan was napping in the living room. Adriel was helping his grandfather build a birdhouse on the patio. He didn't even realize I was there. Adriel gasped when I said, "The birdhouse looks great, Ethan." The boy threw everything on the floor and ran to me. I crouched down to hug the boy. My father-in-law chuckled and stated, "It looks like the other one woke up." Ethan rubbed his eyes and yawned. He grinned when he sensed me and slid off the sofa. The boy grabbed his worksheet and yelled, "Look how much I got for math today, Daddy!"

I laughed while hearing the kids chatter. Both boys had something to share with me. My mother-in-law gave us snacks and drinks to enjoy. I frowned when Anna said, "Alex didn't come home for lunch today. I brought him food. He ate it in front of me, but he didn't look so good. Can you check up on him, Cain?" I stood up and replied, "Of course, Mother. I'll leave right away." I hugged the boys goodbye and left. Alex was in our pack's territory when I found him. He was busy observing a rogue from a hill. I sighed and asked, "Are they planning an attack, head enforcer?" Alex chuckled and replied, "Don't call me that when we are alone. It seems like your brother's enemies are eager to hurt him. They moved up their plans to destroy the pack."

I tried to sense where the rogues were hiding. I closed my eyes and whispered, "It's time to wake up Theon." My wolf stretched out his body and asked, "What's the matter, Cain? Our family is safe and sound, so why are you bothering me?" To say my wolf was lazy was an understatement. He had cut his ties with my parents and Maverick long ago. I huffed and uttered, "Maverick is in trouble. It would be such a shame if he died before our children got to know him." Theon hummed and replied, "That's true. How do you want to help him?" I gazed at Alex and said, "Find out how many rogues are hiding behind the trees and in the caves. We will kill them before they can attack."

I was startled when Alex grabbed my hand and uttered, "Don't be hasty. Let them gather first." I had an eerie feeling. I scanned our surroundings and stated, "Theon's just gathering information and nothing else." Alex threw his arm around me and yelled, "Brace yourself!" A bomb exploded in the meadows. Alex and I lost our balance from the impact. We used our powers to protect ourselves. I groaned while looking at the damage. There was a massive hole in the middle of the field. I sighed and said, "I wasn't expecting to partake in a war when I came to see you." Alex laughed and replied, "Well, this is all in a day's work for me."

Theon growled and uttered, "I know who is behind the attack, Cain. We can kill all the culprits by ourselves if we want. We can start by destroying the neighboring pack's alpha first." Maverick appeared on the field with his enormous army. I recognized Kit Mercer and his mate instantly. I couldn't help but whistle when I sensed how powerful Maverick's army was. Alex patted my back and asked, "Do you understand why I told you to wait?"

I nodded while looking at my brother. Fighting was Maverick's forte, so I wasn't worried about him. I couldn't comprehend what would happen if the enemy got hold of my brother-in-law and nephews. The war started instantly. The key players were still in hiding. Theon kept a close eye on them. Alex's men were leading the pack members to safety.

Everything was happening so fast that I couldn't keep up. I frowned when a spear pierced through Maverick's chest. He had killed many enemies until now with barely a scratch on him. I growled when I realized that one of Maverick's men had harmed him. Maverick's beta cut the culprit into pieces. Kit tried to heal Maverick, but the wound was getting bigger instead. Alex gazed at me and asked, "What do you want to do as his brother?" I took my suit jacket off and uttered, "I want to destroy all of them."

Alex nodded and stated, "I permit you to meddle, but don't kill the alphas. I need people to clean up the garbage in the underworld." I smirked and replied, "As you wish, head enforcer." I shifted into my wolf and took off running. People screamed when they saw a giant black wolf running towards them. I killed as many enemies as I could. I sighed in relief when I saw that Alex had healed Maverick.

Things were under control on the field. I concentrated on the rebelling alphas next. Theon knew where they were hiding. We flushed them out one by one. The alphas were losing their mind because they couldn't recognize me. I changed into my human form when I had gathered all the culprits. I was about to confront Maverick when the head elder appeared with Amel, Ruel, and Mason. Maverick went down on his knees and yelled, "No, please don't kill them!" Amel was coughing uncontrollably. The boys were looking in fear at their father. Theon growled and uttered, "That old bastard has signed a death contract with our brother."

I knew this already. I gazed at my crying nephews and asked, "Can you break the spell?" Theon chuckled and replied, "Easily. Give me the head elder's blood." Alex cut off the head elder's arm in a flash. He smiled at me and uttered, "Go ahead." I grabbed a dagger and pierced it through my brother's hand. Maverick growled and asked, "What the hell are you doing?" I smirked and replied, "It's what you get for not sharing your problems with me." I grabbed the head elder's arm and sprayed his blood on Maverick's wound. I closed my eyes and let Theon finish the job. The head elder screamed when his heart shattered. He had probably never thought someone would use a counterattack spell on him. The man died in front of us. Alex disappeared with the alphas and his men after the war ended. I used a spell to restore the area.

Maverick's men left to confront the rebelling packs. My brother's kids were in shock. Amel brought them home to calm them down. Maverick and I were alone on the field. I lay down on the grass and said, "Things would have turned out differently if I wasn't here this afternoon, Maverick. You know that Alex has to stay impartial." Maverick sighed and replied, "Yeah. I know, thank you, and you too, Theon." I chuckled when Theon huffed. Maverick and I enjoyed the night sky. It was almost time for dinner. The boys were waiting for me. I got up and said, "I'll see you soon."

Maverick hummed and uttered, "Dad spread the rumor about the takeover. Don't worry. I'll take care of everything. You can run the empire when your term in office is over." I was too tired to argue, so I left. Alex was in the shower when I got home. I took off my clothes and joined him. I hugged Alex from behind and said, "Who would have thought I would be the hero today." Alex laughed and uttered, "Don't let it get to your head." Alex turned to face me and uttered, "You did great, Cain. I'm proud of you." I kissed Alex passionately and declared, "It's all because of you and the kids, babe."
