Chapter 26. Sob story Part 2

Cain's P.O.V

Maverick insisted I join him in his quest to save Aidan. I wanted to see the guy suffer. I wasn't going to let a chance like this slip by. I followed Maverick to the scene. I frowned when we ended up at a motel in L.A. The enforcers stopped us at the door. Maverick tried to fight them. I watched from the sidelines. It took six enforcers to pin Maverick to the ground. My heart skipped when Alex uttered, "Drag the alpha king inside." I smirked when my brother gazed at me. It was never my intention to help him. Alex growled and asked, "What the hell are you doing here, Cain?"

I caressed Alex's cheek and replied, "I want to see Aidan plea for his life." Alex huffed and replied, "You won't be able to handle the truth. Go home." I laughed and said, "Let me be the judge of that." Alex gazed into my eyes and motioned me to follow him. Aidan and his mate were lying on the floor. There was a chair in front of them. Alex ordered me to sit. I diligently followed his orders. I tried to see where Maverick was. My brother was sitting in the corner of the room. I smiled when I saw Aidan's bloodied face. Aidan tried to touch my leg. Alex kicked his hand away and growled, "Keep your curse to yourself." Aidan started crying. Aidan's mate threw his arm around him to soothe him. Alex summoned his assistant and uttered, "Cast the spell."

I lost my mind when Aidan said, "Everything happened because of Mrs. Barrett. I met her years ago at work. She helped me complete high school. I was surprised when she asked me to woo Cain. I could sense Cain wasn't interested in me. I followed Cain one day and saw him with Alex. Mrs. Barrett wasn't happy with the news. She asked the elders to get rid of Cain's mate. I didn't want to assist Mrs. Barrett, but I had no choice. The woman was threatening to sue my family. She claimed that she had lent me the money. I asked Mrs. Barrett why she was adamant about ruining Alex's life. She told me it was the only way to save her family. Mrs. Barrett left me alone for a few months but called me again later. She wanted me to touch Cain. I was surprised because I didn't know what she meant. Mrs. Barrett invited me to Cain's coming-of-age party and handed me an elixir. She told me to drink the potion and to touch Cain afterward. I managed to bewitch Cain while congratulating him."

"Things completely changed after that. I felt sorry for Alex but couldn't do anything about it. My family shunned me when they found out the truth. Mrs. Barrett took me in only to use me. She fell in love with my son when he was born. I was happy with the development, so I left it alone. Things were peaceful for a few years. Imagine my surprise when she called me to say that Alex was back. Mrs. Barrett wanted me to put a spell on Cain again. She had bought a demon from one of the elders. I didn't want to fall into her trap, but she had my child. She told us to flee before the enforcers caught us."

I sighed and said, "I know all this already. Why don't you tell me how you managed to fool my mother?" Aidan gasped and yelled, "What are you talking about?" I chuckled and replied, "No one has ever seen your parents. You just one day started working at the supermarket. I couldn't even find your birth certificate. Is that omega even your child?" Maverick growled and yelled, "Tell the truth, Aidan!" I scowled at my brother and said, "Oh, now you have come to your senses?" Maverick put his head down in shame. Alex handed me a file and said, "You'll find all the answers here." I huffed when I read that Aidan was the previous head elder's son. My father had filed a complaint against the man when he stole his money. I glared at Aidan and asked, "You did all this for revenge?"

Aidan laughed and uttered, "You are all fools. My parents died in an accident while fleeing the country. All that money he stole went down with them. I was roaming the streets when Alex's uncle found me. The man groomed me into what I am today." I jumped up when Aidan changed his form. His mate disappeared in the blink of an eye. Alex grabbed my shoulder and said, "Aidan's mate was never real." A beautiful man was now standing in front of me. The man gazed into my eyes and stated, "I'm a siren. I have the power to create illusions and to ward off spells. Your mother didn't know what hit her when she met me. I found the little omega as a baby in a garbage bag. I don't care about him. So do as you see fit. Oh, and I never wanted revenge. It was all for fun. It's time for me to leave now. Bye."

Alex grabbed Aidan's neck and said, "Not so fast. You must pay for your sins. I'll deal with my uncle and Mrs. Barrett later." A cold shiver ran down my spine when Alex grabbed a knife and cut Aidan's cheeks. The man began screaming in pain. Alex looked at his handy work and uttered, "I can't have you putting spells on my men now, can I?" Two enforcers dragged Aidan out of the room. Alex wiped his knife and said, "Ugh, what a foul smell." Maverick knelt before Alex and said, "Please forgive my mother, Alex." Alex sighed and uttered, "Your mother ruined many lives, Maverick. It's not my place to forgive her. Go home. Enjoy the time you have with her. We will arrest her tonight." Maverick left quickly. I grabbed Alex's arm and asked, "Aren't you afraid my mother will flee?" Alex chuckled and showed me an image. Enforcers were already at the hospital. They were keeping a close eye on my mother.

Alex kissed me passionately and uttered, "Let's go to my house. Adriel needs help with math." Adriel smiled when he saw us. He ran to me and said, "Welcome back, Daddy." I hugged my child tightly. Adriel made me realize what mattered the most. I helped Adriel with math while Alex showered. I had dinner at Alex's house. Adriel fell asleep after dinner. Alex's parents offered to put him to bed. Alex and I were enjoying some whiskey in Alex's room when my mother called out to me. Alex kissed my cheek and uttered, "Ignore her." I sighed and said, "Some parents would kill for their children's happiness, but not my mother." Alex pulled me into his arms and stated, "It's alright, Cain. We are together now." I clutched Alex's shirt and began crying. Alex rubbed my back and said, "Don't be afraid. Let it all out." I wiped my tears and asked, "How can you stay strong? They kept us apart for six years. My child doesn't even know me."

Alex kissed my forehead and replied, "You can't see it, but I'm dying inside, Cain. I have to stay strong for both of us. I had Adriel by my side while you had no one." I cried to my heart's content. I was startled when Adriel asked, "Is daddy alright, Papa?" I smiled at my child and replied, "Everything's good, my son. Come here." Adriel entered the room and sat next to me. I pulled my child into my arms and asked, "How would you like it if I gave up my title and stayed with you instead?" Adriel gasped and yelled, "No, no, no! You can't do that. I want to brag to my classmates about you. Brian always talks about his police commissioner father. I want people to know that my father is the president. I bet Brian will stay quiet then."

I laughed and said, "Okay, I won't retire." Adriel leaned his head against my chest and closed his eyes. Alex pinched my cheek and uttered, "What are you asking a six-year-old child? Becoming the president was your destiny. Don't joke around." I kissed Alex intensely and declared, "I promise to spend more time with you and Adriel from now on." I went home after putting Adriel to bed. I didn't even contact Maverick to enquire about my parents. I was looking forward to spending the evening with my mate and child. My heart sank when Flynn notified me about my international trips. I would be away for a month. A lot could happen in that time.
